UK Development Director - VisionFund International

Job Description


VisionFund is seeking a UK Development Director based in London to manage its new UK fundraising programme focused on major donor prospects and supporters. Working as part of the VisionFund European and global fundraising team, this role will manage relationships with our key prospects and donors in the UK, UK events, and all fundraising activities in the UK. The role will oversee our UK investment in growing fundraising and will seek to maximize fundraising opportunities to support

VisionFund's microfinance work and economic development.


Major Donor Acquisition and Engagement:

  • Manage the major donor moves management process in the UK with high net worth individuals.

  • Develop effective and influential relationships with new and existing major donors through face-to-face meetings, written and telephonic communication, and special events.

  • Considerately and deliberately present the needs of the people VisionFund serves in a compelling manner to donors.

  • Update major donors with comprehensive and timely reports, according to development plans, of the work that they have funded.

  • Appropriately engage donors with evidence of impact, articles, information and media about VisionFund/World Vision and development work that will inspire them.

  • Meet activity targets and follow prescribed internal processes to deliver income targets.

  • When required, travel with donors on Vision Trips to the field.

  • Create individual donor development plans using specific and clearly thought out steps (touch points) to engage donors, receive financial gifts, grow the relationship and transform their experience with VisionFund.

  • Equip major donors with the relevant ‘tools’ to be ambassadors for VisionFund.

  • Engage donors in the work of the MFIs in order to win them to support the work of the MFIs and VFI including donor “vision trips”.

  • Oversee UK leadership council and impact investing clubs.

  • Carry out ad hoc duties which may be required to ensure VisionFund maintains its effectiveness.


  • Working with the Global Development Director and Fundraising Coordinator to further develop and implement the UK major donor programme for VisionFund’s work.

  • Oversee UK fundraising targets and investment budget.

  • Oversee our complementary partnership agreements with World Vision UK, Stewardship Services and Shared Impact and other UK strategic partners.

  • Promote VisionFund’s profile at strategically significant philanthropic conferences or forums.


  • Comprehensive prospect research and database screening to identify potential major donors.

  • Work collaboratively with WV UK to identify and share existing donors with capacity and inclination to become major donors to VF or WV.


  • Substantial proven knowledge and experience in fundraising or sales.

  • Solid verbal and written communication.

  • Financially numerate and comfortable with budgets.

  • Excellent demonstrable knowledge of the market within the specific region or country.

  • Min 10 years in fundraising, development or corporate sales environment dealing with senior executives. Preferably experience in humanitarian, international.

  • development or financial institutions.

  • This person has had direct experience working with high net worth (HNW) individuals and whilst has a heart for the poor, can fit in corporate boardrooms.

  • Has experience of working with personal trusts, foundation and or grant makers.

  • Solid verbal and written communication, Financially numerate and comfortable with budgets.


  • Must be able to provide personal service to prospects and donors whilst not losing sight of the big picture.

  • Must be cross culturally sensitive as will work with associates from every area of the world.

  • Flexibility on hours to contact people within wide time zone differences is required.

  • Networker able to build broad and deep relational network and comfortable talking to donors and audiences.

  • Well connected to the social and corporate markets in which this person will prospect.

Work Environment:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10_% of the time.
