World Vision’s Emergency Response Roster is comprised of highly experienced and vetted humanitarian aid professionals available for short term, medium term, and long term emergency response assignments with World Vision. This roster allows World Vision to more rapidly identify and hire for key positions in its humanitarian response offices.

If selected, eligible applicants will first be fully vetted and then approved for the Emergency Response Roster. As vacancies arise in our humanitarian offices, roster members will be considered for employment opportunities.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements for all Emergency Response Roster Positions:

  • 5+ years of cross cultural humanitarian emergency experience outside of your home country.

  • Minimum 2 years experience serving successfully in fragile or unstable environments.

  • Experience directly managing staff during humanitarian emergency responses.

  • Ability to work long hours in stressful environments with a variety of skilled professionals.

  • Demonstrated management of budgets in emergency response settings.

  • Willing to serve unaccompanied; most likely in a team house setting.

  • English proficiency; written and verbal.

  • Grant Acquisition Management experience in your personalized expertise.

  • Strong track record in developing good working relationships with governmental institutions and multilateral agencies.

Assistant Accountant

Position: Assistant Accountant

Location: Chipapa Area Programme – Chilanga (1) and Chikomeni Area Programme- Lundazi (1)

Purpose of the Position

To Contribute to improved and sustained well-being of children by; (a) Assist the Program Accountant in Supporting the effective decision-making and financial sustainability of the program through being a business partner, internally (to the Programme/Project Team) and externally (to local partners and collaborations); (b)Assist the Program Accountant in ensuring stewardship, accountability and transparency at all levels through the active resourcing and empowerment of the organization and partners; (c) Strengthening community financial management capacity; (d) Participate in financial planning and (e) assist in minimizing risk exposure to the organization and the partner’s operations.

Major Responsibilities

Planning and Budgeting

  • Assist Programme Accountant to ensure project planning and budgeting work schedule to meet the requirements/deadlines by the NO and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Support Programme Accountant & programme/ project team to ensure programme/project budgets are clear and aligned with project goals and outcomes, by giving due consideration to WVI Finance Policies and donor regulations.

Accounting

  • Prepare and process bank deposits/withdrawals and petty cash payments

  • Preparevouchers, process invoices for payment.

  • Post transactions to general ledger/voucher interface.

  • Track staff advance, other balance sheet accounts, reconcile and clear on a monthly basis.

  • Review employee expense reports and code appropriately

  • File accounting related documents for easy retrieval.

  • (if financial partnering involved)Verify the fund transfer to partners and documentation as per agreements; and review and amend (if necessary) financial information provided by partnersfor consolidation in WV.

  • Ensure timeliness, completeness and accuracy in all accounting documents.

  • Supervise the ware house record keeping and asset maintenance

  • Update fixed asset registration, tagging, reconciliation and reporting

Reporting and Compliance

  • Assist programme/project team in preparing budget vs. actual variance explanations report.

  • Contribute to the development of financial monitoring system, analyzing and sharing financial reports/ information.

  • Identify key donor requirements and communicate to programme/project team.

  • Support compliance with key Finance requirements (monthly FFR report, completed LDRs by all ADP staff, monthly reconciliations (fixed assets and balance sheet accounts), etc).

  • (If financial partnering involved) Perform monitoring on partners’ financial and accounting operations as per agreements, local government, WV requirements and donor regulations; review and analyze partners’ financial reports; and assist necessary amendments on partners’ financial reports.

Risk Management and Internal Controls

  • Support adherence to proper internal control system by programme/project team.

  • Promote and practice transparency and integrity for good stewardship of resources.

  • Communicate to appropriate people potential risk observed in the program implementation.

  • Assist Programme Accountant to take corrective actions/measures on audit recommendations and regularly monitor progress, in partnership with NO and partner finance departments.

  • (If financial partnering involved) Assist partners to identify areas for improvements on internal control systems to carry out the activities as per agreements; and support to develop internal control system/manual as required.

Staff Capacity Building

  • Assist Program Accountant in conducting orientation on finance policies and procedures to newly hired staff

Partner Capacity Building

  • Assist the Program Accountant in financial training and mentorship with Partners

Other Competencies/Attributes:

  • Good understanding of local partnering

  • Basic understanding of VFI/MFI/MED

  • Experience and proficiency on financial software and reporting systems

  • Self-guided, strong organizational and planning skills; ability to work independently and under pressure

  • Ability to manage interpersonal relations and work effectively with others, to establish and maintain good working relations in a multicultural, multiethnic environment while showing sensitivity and respect fordiversity.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word

  • Good written, oral communication and facilitation skills

  • Able to work on a cross-cultural environment with a multi-national staff.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Diploma in Accounts; ZICA membership required, ACCA/CIMA level 2 or equivalent a plus

  • Solid Knowledge of accounting principles, financial systems, budget/cash – flow monitoring and internal accounting controls

  • At least 1 year experience in finance, accounting/bookkeeping activities, auditing, business administration or related field.

  • Computer literate in Ms Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Capacity to function well in a team and contribute effectively to team efforts.

  • Knowledge of and work experience with government grant regulations and financial reporting requirements preferred

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based 60% : field 40%

  • Travel: international as required.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), VisionFund Zambia

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • Lead the Micro Finance Institution (MFI), building an organization that honors Christian values by positively impacting the lives of many families and children through the delivery of appropriate financial services and training with a particular focus on the rural areas of Zambia.

  • Create a self-sustaining business with strong foundations (people, process, systems) that is capable of growing while managing risks.

  • Manage an effective and efficient operation, delivering to challenging financial and social performance targets.

  • Work closely with WV to develop integrated livelihoods programmes, and thereby obtain funding from the partnership and donors to grow the operation.

  • Finally, to deal with all regulatory issues and lead the organization through the process of conversion into regulated deposit taking institution in the near future.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission & Purpose & Business Acumen:

  • Ensure that the vision, and mission, purpose, goals, objectives, outputs and policies set by the Board and approved by VisionFund International (VFI) are fully implemented, complied with and met.

  • Delivery on child impact targets.

  • Develops, monitors and implements short and long term business plan.

  • Reports to the board using standard reporting templates on a regular basis.

  • Develops and deliver on key performance indicators for VisionFund Zambia (VFZ).

  • Develops and implements strategic plan.

  • Ensures the culture of the whole organization reflects its mission and vision.

  • Develops, monitors and implements short and long term business plan

  • Ensure that the plans are cascaded to implementation groups and staff.

Fundraising:

Fund Sourcing

  • Negotiates effectively with creditors, grant bodies and other financial institutions.

  • Ensure compliance with conditions and reporting requirements.

  • Diligently manage and close grants and related projects.

  • Follow up with open grant audit issues.

Finance Management:

  • Ensures that annual financial projections, reports and budget are prepared for the board on time.

  • Recommends yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manages VFZ’s resources within those budget guidelines.

  • Ensures that effective and efficient financial management system is installed and maintained.

  • VFZ is profitable.

Risk Management:

  • Ensures that all loans are prudently disbursed.

  • Ensures savings products are effectively priced and delivered (subject to MFI board approval).

  • Ensures that effective internal control and risk management system is established and maintained.

  • Ensures effective liquidity management.

  • Ensure effective banking and financial systems are in place and are regularly updated.

Integration:

Effective integration with WV& VFI and effective promotion of the organization Relations.

  • Ensure at national office and branch level integration strategies are fully understood, communicated and practiced.

Policy Compliance:

  • Prepares the MFI for new regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Minimum a Masters degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management or some other related field.

  • Must have at least ten years of working experience in senior management in a combination of the following: micro-enterprise lending organization, banking institution, a progressive corporate environment, international business, agricultural economics/development, or economic and business development institution.

  • Must have a clear understanding of micro finance industry and technology.

  • Must have worked experience in regulatory environment and better with institution that intermediate savings.

  • Determined personality with initiative, perseverance and the ability to motivate and manage a team.

  • Capability and willingness to lead the organization forward.

Working Environment/Travel:

  • Office environment: typical office based and frequent travel to fields (40% traveling and 60% office based).

  • Travel: 90% Domestic 10% international travel is desired.

  • On call: Yes in the after normal working hours.
