Resource Acquisition Manager

Purpose of the Position

The overall goal of the position is to oversee the growth of non-sponsorship income for World Vision Ghana. As team leader, the position is instrumental in developing and implementing the office’s resource development strategy, advocating for the resources required to implement the strategy, and building the capacity of the office in resource development and management.  

This position is a critical role and key to the National Office, the individual should be able to lead the roll out of the National Office Resource Development Strategy in alignment with Our Promise. As such, the core mandate of this position includes: 

  • To lead and manage the National Office Resource Development Unit to drive growth and diversification of grant income (bilateral, multilateral, foundations, GIK non-food items) and Local Resource Mobilization in accordance with the National Office Resource Development Strategy. 

  • To position World Vision Ghana and ensure productive engagement and retention of grant donors (public and private), through successful grants implementation, effective communication of the impact of grants and strong relationships with partners, institutions, Support Offices and donors 

  • To build the capacity of World Vision Ghana in Grants and Private Non Sponsorship (PNS) acquisitions, partnership building with diverse donors and key stakeholders, in the capacity of sector/project staff in the areas of development, proposal writing/design, compliance with donor regulations and project start up and overall project management quality assurance.  

To lead and manage the establishment of Local Resource Mobilisation for the National office by tapping into a varied number of available resources available in country (Foundations, Corporate, Church, the diaspora, highly networked individuals, the public and the government). 

  • To provide support to the World Vision Ghana Board through the Local Resource Mobilisation Board Committee. This would entail preparing quarterly Resource Acquisition pre-reads for the committee, attending committee meeting, taking notes, preparing committee meeting minutes and representing World Vision Ghana’s Senior Leadership Team through the committee. 

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Leadership:  

  • Lead the revision and roll out of the National Office grants acquisition and management strategy/Business Plan (for both public and private) in alignment with National Office strategy and targets. 

  • Give strategic direction to the office so that it remains innovative and responsive to changes in the business environment. 

  • Identify, market opportunities and monitor donor trends and for growing grant funding from governments and multilaterals. 

  • Guide the national office in prioritizing and planning the capacities needed for resource development  

  • Provide day to day leadership and management to ensure timely and efficient support for prepositioning, proposal development and effective issue resolution in grant performance across National Office/Support Office as needed 

External Engagement, Donor Identification, Pre-Positioning and Networking 

  • Track the donor landscape (research, analyse, develop, track relationships with new and current donors) to organize prepositioning meetings with donors and key partners.  

  • Actively engage and participate in strategic in country donor and partner meetings  

  • Build and strengthen networks and partnerships with prioritized stakeholders (Support Offices, key NGOs and government departments) to improve learning, influence, competitiveness, and visibility. 

  • Ensure that the National Office Resource Development Unit team work in collaboration with Support Offices’ grant teams and Regional Development Unit, to actively maintain strong donor relationships at global, regional and country level, developing engagement strategies for each donor or a group of donors 

  • Oversee the implementation of donor engagement plans by maintaining an up-to-date record of the requirements of current potentialdonors and being proactive in the lookout and co-creation for local, regional, and global opportunities. 

  • Represent World Vision in external meetings with key donors. Lead the preparation for senior level meetings with target donors 

  • To ensure appropriate representation of the National Office at a strategic forum that could lead to resource acquisition and enhanced programming collaboration. 

  • Represent the National Office in the grants community for (internal and external to World Vision) 

  • Participate in donor led working groups, conferences and meetings 

Local Resource Mobilisation and Board Engagement 

  • Establish an efficient grant opportunity tracking system for tracking grant opportunities and manage opportunity pipeline maintaining an overview of country level grant funding opportunities and donor trends.  

  • Support the NOs in the development of consortia  

  • Ensure the appropriate use of the Grants Risk Assessment Form to facilitate the Go/No Go Decision 

  • Lead cross-functional teams to plan, prepare, and execute processes to ensure timely submission of high quality proposals that are responsive to donor requirements and World Vision’s technical and cost standards.  

  • Oversee the development and implementation of standards, guidelines and approaches for quality business development and monitor compliance. 

  • Work closely with Technical Programme Managers/Leads Programme Effectiveness, Finance, Support Office, and other staff to develop proposals and funding pipelines 

  • Provide strategic direction to NO to pursue non-traditional funding sources, identifying emerging or untapped high potential donors and new emerging models. 

  • Support the development and implementation of marketing strategies and materials for resource development 

Capacity Building and Staff Management  

  • Lead and develop RAM staff towards improved performance, collaboration, and innovativeness  

  • Ensure all NO staff involved in grants, including the position holder have completed and are Proposal pro certified. 

  • Ensure individuals’ performance and development needs are met, and employees are high performing and engaged.  

  • Conduct all required performance management processes for RAM staff including partnering for performance and regular meetings  

  • Oversee the training and mentoring of staff, to improve their skills in proposal development, external engagement, positioning and marketing. 

  • Identify capacity gaps at NOs in grants acquisition and management  

  • Develop a strong successor to be able to take up increasing grant management responsibility. 

Reporting 

  • Ensure that reports and other deliverables required by WARO and global Centres is submitted in a timely manner.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience 

 

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline such as development studies, education, health, or management 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in developing and writing program/project proposals and three years’ experience in leading proposal development 

  • Strong analytical skill and problem solving abilities 

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill and ability to work closely and supportively within teams. 

  • Experienced networker with strong skills in donor relations, negotiations and partnering with up to date knowledge of the donor landscape and trends in “middle income countries”.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The High Net Worth Donor Events Specialist develops and coordinates engaging meetings and events to drive High Net Worth (HNW) donor engagement, including informational meetings, webinars, virtual field tours, and in-person field visits (as conditions permit) across the Europe region. This role manages numerous projects across European support offices and World Vision field offices, developing a calendar of events that serve the needs of HNW donors and European fundraising offices and staff, requiring strong, ongoing collaboration with leaders, staff, and technical experts at all levels of the organisation, including vendors and consultants. Organisation, attention to detail, and collaboration are critical to success in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and manage a calendar of regular field calls for HNW donors:

  • Identify, through business/ROI analysis, and provide expert recommendations on types of events to sponsor and attend.

  • Identify/develop a rolling, yearly calendar of events (virtual and physical) to provide opportunities for HNW Fundraising and Marketing staff to engage and educate HNW donors on projects and impacts.

  • Develop a communication strategy and systems to ensure that offices are aware of and able to easily use the events calendar.

  • Work with internal and external teams /products as needed to ensure technological, cultural, and language support for the diverse population of HNW donors.

  • 5+ years of work experience coordinating successful virtual and physical events, including planning, logistics and management.

  • Must have a strong understanding of the unique requirements for HNW donors (as distinguished from mass-market fundraising) marketing and engagement.

  • Demonstrated success coordinating a broad calendar of events across a dispersed organisation.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Philanthropy Advisor, Europe will support and continually build the capacity of European High Net Worth (HNW) Donor engagement teams to initiate and nurture strong, trusting relationships with HNW donors with the goal of engaging them in meaningful service with the poor. This includes supporting offices to contextualise and scale HNW donor fundraising best practices, acting as a liaison global level teams and initiatives, providing mentorship and capacity building, and facilitating ongoing, mutually supportive peer engagement across Europe region fundraising teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build expertise in middle and major donor engagement across Euro Fundraising Offices. Act as a resource for the fundraisers in those offices to effectively scale HNW donor fundraising best practices:

  • Advise and build capability in the development of in-country major and mega donor strategies (HNW and Ultra-HNW).

  • Develop subject matter expertise and act as global level technical expert ‘go-to source’ on HNW donor engagement best practice.

  • With the regional prospect research function and global WV Philanthropy Alliance partners, identify and engage potential cross-border donors to grow donor networks and portfolios.

  • Pioneer and lead engagement of major cross-border HNW partnerships on behalf of the Philanthropy Alliance, e.g. with investment banks such as UBS Optimus Foundation. Partner with WV office CEOs as necessary.

  • Support donor strategy at an individual level for all Ultra-HNW donors in the region.

  • Lead relationship management of a small number of cross-border Ultra HNW donors, who live across a number of territories.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising in a large, complex organisation.

  • 5+ years of work experience in High Net Worth donor relations roles.

  • 5+ years training and mentoring effective teams.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness training and mentoring fundraising teams.

Senior Resource Development Manager, WV Uganda

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To provide overall leadership in delivering high quality, sustainable funding that supports World Vision Uganda (WVU) to realise its mission and objectives in line with its strategy; Our promise 2030. The Senior Resource Development Manager will take lead in the strategic sourcing of funds from various donors like the EC, USAID, AusAID, KOICA etc. as well as private donors and develop and achieve fundraising targets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain a Resource Development Business Plan to guide strategic interactions with potential donors and partners.

  • Proactively build strong networks and relationships with key donors.

  • Represent WVU to donors, both informally and formally, including giving presentations on behalf of WVU, as required.

  • Represent WVU in negotiations with donors over grant contracts etc.

  • Maintain a strong overall awareness of donor trends (both globally and for Uganda specifically) and awareness of specific, relevant grant opportunities.

  • Facilitate and coordinate interactions between WVU colleagues (including technical specialists and senior leadership) and key donor representatives, as appropriate.

  • Engage with WV Support Offices in order to support their donor interactions in global capitals.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and disseminate information resources (e.g. fact sheets, capacity statements, situation reports) that can enhance donor engagement.

Networking, External Coordination and Relationships:

In addition to donor relationships above, the jobholder will:

  • Collaborate with colleagues (especially technical specialists) to ensure effective networking through and information flow from inter-agency fora, including refugee sector working groups and government ministry working groups. This will include direct participation in such fora from time to time.

  • Collaborate with colleagues (especially technical specialists) to ensure effective bilateral engagement with key government ministries.

  • Proactively develop strong relationships with counterparts at peer NGOs, UN agencies, and other organisations in order to facilitate information sharing, enhance intelligence gathering on donor opportunities and identify potential partnerships for grant applications.

  • Proactively develop strong relationships with World Vision Support Offices with a view to identifying new funding opportunities from private fundraising sources.

  • Represent WVU within the global organization as focal point for Grant Acquisition & Management, interacting with other World Vision offices including in the East Africa Region (EARO), Brussels and Geneva offices, and Global Centre.

Proposal Development:

  • Lead the development and submission of winning funding applications (approximately 50 applications annually) in accordance with WVU Grant Acquisition Procedures and related best practices. This shall include day-to-day coordination of a team of (Senior) Business Development Officers and, from time to time, direct writing of proposals.

  • Make timely recommendations to Senior Leadership Team on grant opportunities, which should be pursued.

  • Ensure strong collaboration with World Vision Support Offices on relevant funding opportunities.

  • Ensure strong coordination with other departments within WVU on proposal development, notably technical specialists, operations division and finance.

  • Engage additional resources from within the World Vision International partnership, as necessary, in order to enhance proposal development. This may include technical specialists, grant writers (where surge capacity is needed) or other contributors.

Staff Management:

  • Manage a team of 3 staff ensuring high performance management, capacity building and teamwork.

  • Provide leadership in facilitating a high performance management culture, open trustworthy staff relationships and integrity to enhance smooth staff relations and accountability.

  • Collaborate strongly with Operations/Programmes division for smooth handover of awarded grants so as to ensure effective start-up of implementation.

  • Provide ongoing advice to Operations/Programmes division, as required, on issues relating to donor regulations and relationships.

  • Maintain a general overview of the implementation status of existing grant projects so as to be able to effectively communicate with donors, as required.

  • As a senior staff member, participate in and actively support the overall leadership of the Programme Quality division.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Sponsor Engagement Content & Data Improvement Specialist is an exciting and significant role in the development and sharing of over 8 million digital and printed engagement features for child sponsors each year.

This role calls for a tech focused marketer/content planner to oversee and implement a content delivery pipeline for a suite of digital and printed/mail features, working with marketers in 20+ countries and field representatives in the 54 countries where World Vision’s child sponsorship programme operates, as well as internal IT/business capability teams.

Their work will be pivotal to the creation of photos, videos, annual reports, cards and letters to child sponsors, and to the success and sustainablity of emerging bodies of work which are led by market insights and sponsor needs.

The Sponsor Engagement Content & Data Improvement Specialist will need to understand the content needs of all sponsor enagagement features (digital or otherwsie), and work with internal stakeholders and internal systems to achieve timely delivery with desired quality.

This is a technical content role, with equal parts storytelling and equal parts system change/readiness to ensure content is leveraged, available, and where needed, is transformed, automated and sponsor friendly.

They will be part of a global team whose projects are focused on strengthening and improving retention and acquisition of sponsors and prospects in 20+ markets.. This cross-functional role will be varied, fast-moving, strategic in nature and best suited to a content or marketing specialist, with a strong technical/data perspective, exceptional coordination and communications skills.

The Sponsor Engagement Improvement Specialist is an exciting and significant role in the production of over 8 million digital and printed engagement features for child sponsors each year.

This role calls for an exceptional marketer/communicator and highly-effective coordinator, who enjoys working with marketers from all over the world with leadership, humity and pace; handling multiple projects at once.

They will be part of a global team who support, facilitate and lead projects within the ongoing improvement of World Vision’s global child sponsorship product experience feature set as well as innovations or emerging bodies of work that may one day be part of the BAU feature set.

These projects are focused on strengthening and improving retention and acquisition of sponsors and prospects, through over 10 m illion photos, videos, cards, letters, updates and reports sent from a sponsored child to their sponsor each year. This cross-functional role will be varied, fast-moving, strategic in nature and best suited to a communications or marketing specialist or manager, with strong coordination, communications and creativity skills.
