POSITION: Nutrition Technical Advisor
POSITION REPORTS TO:Chief of Party
LOCATION: Dhaka, Bangladesh
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Nutrition Technical Advisor will be responsible for leading overall efforts related to multi-sectoral nutrition programming including community level nutrition implementation and coordination. Required attributes: Proven expertise in effective multi-sectoral nutrition service delivery;achieving results through well conceptualized, planned and implemented public health and agriculture programs;demonstrated management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills, with proven ability to function effectively with multiple host country counterparts in both the public and NGO sectors;strong verbal and written English communications skills.
End Results Expected
Technical approaches are applicable for multi-sectoral nutrition research projects
Donor and National Government strategies influenced through consortium evidence and lobby
Partnerships are being built during joint work/advocacy initiatives.
National government and donor development strategies influenced through NGO technical working groups
Strong positive relations with SO IPG teams, and Regional and National Offices and regional technical specialists
Well defined technical assistance/ capacity building and exit strategy, including realistic support for the transition of technical assistance over five years
Program quality implementation and/or management issues are resolved quickly and fully with little disruption.
Learning and Evidence Base Development, Dissemination and Knowledge Management
There is documentation of proven practice, operations research and learnings which can be scaled up in programs
Implementation of evidence based learnings translates into improved programming impact on health initiatives
Best practices and learning in technical area are well documented and shared appropriately
Networking, Partnering, and External Representation
with relevant ministries and contribute to national nutrition strategy
WV influence on the multi-sectoral nutrition agenda to external partners, donors, academia and civil society organizations, is strengthened in the country
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum education, training and experience required:
A minimum of Masters level degree in nutrition, public health or a related field.
Extensive understanding of USG standards on nutrition & health
Extensive knowledge related to Maternal and Child Health & Nutrition behavioral practices
In-depth knowledge of multi-sectoral approaches nutrition and/or public health, and diverse research methodologies
Knowledge of and experience in social and behavior change, and gender issues as they relate to health and nutrition
Proven expertise in effective multi-sectoral nutrition service delivery;achieving results through well conceptualized, planned and implemented public health and agriculture programs nutrition service delivery
Strong scientific writing skills (proposals and publications); understanding and experience in evidence translation
Demonstrated management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills, with proven ability to function effectively with multiple host country counterparts in both the public and NGO sectors;
Understanding and experience of the Bangladesh context is desired
History of engagement with USAID-funded initiatives preferred
Strong workshop facilitation skills
Strong networking skills
Additional work experience required:
Substantial experience in research design, implementation, management; hands-on research experience in resource constrained settings essential
Demonstrable publication record; publications directly relevant for knowledge translation
Experience with research within the multi-sectoral approaches towards improving nutrition an asset
License, registration, or certification required:
Spoken and written Bangla and knowledge of the region is desirable
Strong English communication skills, particularly advanced writing skills, report writing skills for a variety of stakeholders
Preferred skills, knowledge and experience:
Doctoral level training in nutrition or public health or other relevant field, preferred
Strong project management skills; experience developing and managing budgets for research essential
Very organized, able to manage high pressure deliverables and capable to work independently
Conducts occasional field visits in accordance with the project implementation plan and in coordination with other Grants program team officers
