DRR Project Officer

Job Description




Primary purpose of the position is to implement project activities (Project title: Schools tailored for safe childhood) with communities in municipalities of Čelić, Busovača, Čelinac and Stanari.

In order to achieve the expected results of the proposed project, the individual will be responsible for all aspects of (1) communication with relevant stakeholders from the local level in order to support countrywide Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) assessment with schools; (2) communication and close cooperation with school management and consultants from the local level in establishment and work of Disaster Risk Reduction working groups in project schools; (3) coordination and implementation of proposed activities within four elementary schools in which activities related to output 2 will be implemented.


20% of time –

  • Support planning and implementation of country wide DRR assessment with schools.

End results expected:

  • DRR assessment carried out with more than 50% of secondary and primary schools in BiH;

  • Working meetings with project stakeholders carried out and preliminary results presented;

  • Assessment report printed and distributed.

60% of time –

  • Establish and support functioning of DRR working groups within the project schools.

  • Provide technical support to schools in management of Working Groups (WGs) and development of school DRR plans.

  • Coordinate and implement project activities related to education of teachers and children in DRR, ensuring their active participation in implementation of DRR measures.

End results expected:

  • DRR stakeholders identified in four targeted municipalities joined the working groups;

  • DRR working groups formed in four targeted schools;

  • Close collaboration with consultant contributed to project results;

  • Continuous technical support to WGs and school management;

  • Workshops with DRR Working Groups carried out timely;

  • Four DRR school plans developed by WG members;

  • DRR measures in project schools implemented as per DRR school plans;

  • Training for teachers carried out as per project plan;

  • Teachers supported and facilitated DRR workshops with children;

  • Attend and participate in all needed meetings organized by WV;

  • Monitoring activities are properly documented;

  • All relevant reports are of high quality and submitted on time.

20% of time –

  • Maintain an active participation of all relevant stakeholders within the project

End results expected:

  • All relevant stakeholders are motivated to support implementation of the project;

  • Initial meetings carried out as per project plan;

  • Cooperation agreements prepared and signed with key partners;

  • Key messages for reducing school and community vulnerabilities developed with stakeholders;

  • International conference on Disaster Resilient Schools organized;

  • Project partners worked cooperatively and achieved project objectives.


  • Minimum secondary education;

  • Knowledge of English Language, as well as fluency in local languages;

  • Ability to work with people of different nationalities and cultural, religious and educational backgrounds

  • Ability to organize, coordinate and priorities;

  • Ability to work under pressure;

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with other team members and local stakeholders;

  • Full commitment to World Vision core values and mission statement;

  • B category driving license is essential (Two years of active driving).

Experience related to position requirements:

  • Experience in implementation of project activities in the field of Education and DRR sector is preferred and considered as an asset.

  • Two years of working experience in implementation of project activities. Minimum one year experience in field work.

Work environment:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 50% of the time.
