PURPOSE OF POSITION

The communications officer will assist the communications Manager in documenting all activities related to the grant

Contributing to the production of compelling and issues-oriented fundraising, advocacy and publicity materials (web-based, electronic, print and video) for effective donor and public engagement in country and internationally

Participate in communications planning and briefing e.g. press conferences and media interviews.

Help in planning and managing communications in response to both slow- and rapid-onset emergency disaster/relief situations – ensuring that the WV Partnership is provided with quality stories, photos and media interviews from the field.

Collaborate with the National and regional advocacy teams to effectively roll out Advocacy activities in line with the strategy.

Produce consistently and timely feature stories and photos for sharing with World Vision Partnership-wide website

Provide Videography and documentary support in terms of idea formulation, conceptualization and production.

Work with Manager to maintain the Audiovisual Production unit for World Vision ensuring efficient use and security of assets.

Prepare

Prepare to provide relevant audio visual communications training to Sub-branch and non-communications staff

Resdsd Ensure that all work done in the audiovisual domain is recorded and billed. Keep an updated record and status of audiovisual assets and manage (store, update & disseminate) video resources for WV Burundi

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:

  • Minimum of BA in journalism, communications, or public relations required.

  1. Minimum 3 years professional experience in public relations, marketing or Communications in NGOs or private sector.

License, registration, or certification required to perform this position:

Technical Skills & Abilities:

  1. Fluency in English, French and Kirundi with the ability to convey complex information in a straightforward, interesting and motivating manner

  2. Proven written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and present information for different audiences,

  3. Proven photographic skills with the ability to take high-quality photographs, video and scripting and editing skills is an advantage

  4. Good strategic thinking and process, and an understanding of how communications can bring social change

  5. Thorough knowledge of the communications and media industry.

  6. General experience in project management, with specific experience in the production of diverse and creative communications projects including publications, multi-media, websites/pages, photo, and video report.

  7. Ability to travel and work in the field as an essential function of the position.

  8. High levels of confidentiality and confidence

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • BA in public relations, journalism, communications, Arts, or equivalent preferred.

List additional work experience preferred for this position.

  • Experience working as a communications officer in development context, a fast paced, multicultural complex environment.

Work Environment

Include travel & work environment details.

  • Working primarily in the national office in Bujumbura with frequent travel to the field.

  • Domestic travel will be done 35% of the time and also some international travel.

  • On call 10% of the time or as required.
