Position: Basic Education Specialist (Position is contingent on funding approval from the project donor)
Location: Phnom Penh
Length of Contract: One year (August 2017 – August 2018) with potential for renewal of contract.

I. THE PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
World Vision International - Cambodia (WVI-C) has a new Education & Life Skills (EdLS) strategy which focuses on improvement of formal education quality, and promotion of learning gains for children in primary school, in the subjects of basic literacy, math, and life skills. The primary responsibility of this position will be to support review & development of Khmer-language primary grades curricula, as well as contribute to development of teaching & learning materials for early grade reading, and supporting development of policy and practice related to teacher professional development.
II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with a technical team to review and develop early grade national language learning materials.
Contribute to development of a series of guides for teaching Khmer literacy for children in early grades.
Collaborate on development of supplementary reading materials for children in primary school.
Represent WVI-Cambodia at meetings with government counterparts and donors.
Master’s degree in an education field is preferred.
At least 5 years’ experience in technical and senior roles relating to early grade learning in Cambodia.
Demonstrated high level of ability in both Khmer language and English language (written & verbal).
Experience of direct engagement with staff of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS).
Experience working as a classroom teacher.
Experience in planning and conducting teacher training for primary school teachers.
Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work and contribute in a team context.
