Senior Campaigns Advisor, Integration

Job Description

*Preferred location: Cyprus, Nicosia. Other locations to be determined by home country of successful candidate in a jurisdiction (US state or country) where WVI is registered to operate.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This is a senior advisor role within the global Advocacy & External Engagement team responsible for the development & implementation of quality national campaigns that deliver impact and influence in the offices participating in It Takes a World. In addition, the position leads internally and externally on the accountability objective of the campaign, as well as ensuring strong policy foundations and linkages & coordination between national and global campaign strategies and tactics.

This will involve providing strategic input, support and direction to ensure campaign integration within all sectors and functional areas at the national and regional levels, including policy development, external engagement, communications, popular mobilization, high level partnerships and campaign innovation.

The role is also responsible for development and oversight of the achievement of the campaign’s accountability objective, developing policy and utilizing community engagement, social accountability approaches and technology to enable coordination, representation and influence amongst high level external partners in global and national capitals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strong National Campaigns:

  • Delivery of quality campaigns in 60 offices in order to contribute to long-term organizational objectives.

Leadership on accountability objective of It Takes a World campaign:

  • Lead on accountability objective internally and externally, by engaging and convening Civil Society Organisations’ coalitions and stakeholders, thought leadership and EE in global capitals.

  • (It Takes a World accountability objective: “Strengthen accountability for the implementation of commitments to end violence against boys and girls. Strengthening accountability mechanisms (local, national, regional, global) and monitoring how governments fulfill their commitments to end violence against children, including the SDGs as well as the most relevant local mechanisms”).

  • Works with other child focused agencies on Child Rights Now initiative.

  • developing a report on accountability.

  • Provides tools, resources, advice to NOs & partners, facilitates community consultations, citizens hearings, to enable communities to hold their local governments accountable.

  • Represents WV's position on issues of accountability as it relates to ending violence against children and interacts at Global Capitals, UN General Assembly meetings, and other high level political forums, such as European development days in Brussels, and members of governments at the NY headquarters.

Campaign Innovation:

  • Strategic thinking and development of approaches for campaign in different contexts, implementation of innovative trends in campaigning and influencing of external audiences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Master’s degree in development studies, political, social sciences or related field.

  • At least ten (10) years of successful relevant professional experience including development and implementation of advocacy or campaign strategies and/or policy analysis and development.

  • The appointee will have experience working on policy issues in relation to the following:, child protection and/or ending violence against children.

  • Experience in coordinating and supporting advocacy engagement in low and middle-income countries, including in coalitions.

  • Strong project & stakeholder management experience.

  • Experience of working in a complex, international and cross-cultural environment.

  • Ability / experience influencing people to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

  • Recent HEAT training certification.

  • English and French or Spanish (preferable).

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • The incumbent is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, under the strategic direction of the Advocacy and Campaign Integration Manager.

Campaigning Experience:

  • Experience in developing and delivering campaign strategies.

  • Field experience, along with practical knowledge of DM&E.

  • Experience mobilising supporters and influencing key decision makers on development issues.

  • Campaigning in Fragile Contexts.

Advocacy and Policy Work:

  • The appointee will be well-articulated both verbally and in writing.

  • The appointee will have experience in policy analysis and the development of position papers.

  • The appointee will have the ability to work with and guide consultants/local staff in research and policy analysis.

  • The appointee will have ability to adapt resources and guidance to communicate effectively with FO staff.

Team Work:

  • Ability to maintain good relations and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to maintain awareness of the activities of other members of the team to enable mutual support during times of high pressure especially in a remote working environment.

Other technical skills/experience:

  • Strong negotiation, facilitation, influencing and persuading skills.

  • A solid understanding of international and national policies relevant for children.

  • Ability to mentor staff in a cross-cultural context.

  • Management of organisational relations through networking and alliances.

  • Representational experience at national and international level.

  • Strong competencies to plan, prioritise, coordinate and ability to deliver in tight deadlines and budgets.

  • Experience of developing External and/or Public Engagement plans.

  • Experience in social communications for advcacy purposes.

  • Experience in preparing grant applications and reports for donors.

Work Environment/Travel:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time.
