Water Quality Laboratory Chemist
To work with other laboratory team members and will be in charge of physico-chemical analysis of water quality samples including trace elements. Analysis will mainly be carried out in the Tamale Water Quality Analysis Laboratory and samples will be tested from GI WASH Program and other country WASH Programs. The Chemist will also be expected to perform on-site tests & train other field staffs to perform on-site tests using portable testing equipment depending on the need.
The position is based in Tamale
S/He reports to the Water Quality Laboratory Manager
Develop and maintain validation in all protocols for various controls and activities.
Handle, understand, & operate delicate laboratory equipment including ion chromatograph, Atomic Adsorption Spectro Photometer (AAS) and other key equipment in the Laboratory.
Analyse all water samples in accordance with defined protocols and standard chemical and physical analytical laboratory procedures.
Maintain accurate data, records and reports and submit appropriate records and reports on a regular basis as required by the organization.
Interpret data and present findings to supervisor.
Prepare all reagent and standard solutions for testing.
Implement and maintain QA/QC and standard operating procedures.
Operate, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot analytical/miscellaneous instrumentation.
Adhere to prescribed safety rules, regulations and practices as per job specific work assignments.
Conduct all required performance evaluation to maintain certification with state and international regulatory agencies.
Perform field work assignments that are pertinent to the water quality improvement aspects of the World Vision WASH goals.
Facilitate in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual objectives and reports.
Follow and maintain World Vision’s standards of Quality in accordance with the organization’s Quality System requirements.
Education / Work Experience / Key Competencies
Degree in chemistry (applied chemistry), biochemistry or chemical engineering
Five years working experience in the WASH sector and good understanding of industry standards and trends with a minimum of 2 years work experience in water testing.
Able to use the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer and Ion Chromatographic System for water testing.
Conversant with water chemistry

Fluent in English Language
