Senior Director Strategy Engagement

The Strategy Realisation and Innovation (SRI) team, is looking for an excellent senior director to champion strategic engagement and galvanise all WV entities in a collective effort to realize Our Promise 2030.

As the Senior Director for Strategy Engagement you will be the de-facto subject matter expert on World Vision’s approach to strategy development. You will establish and nurture a cadre of strategy specialists across the Partnership and engage them in local efforts to track progress to Our Promise.

You will leverage outputs from the SRO to strengthen, streamline and simplify the strategy function so that critical components are cascaded effectively across the organization whilst identifying low-value strategy activities that can be stopped.

You will be part of the SRI senior leadership shaping team priorities to ensure we deliver maximum value to Field & Support Offices, Regional Offices and Global Centre teams across the Partnership.

You will support WV’s People & Culture’s Leadership Development team to orient new leaders in WV’s strategy approach and explore new ways to ‘raise the tide’ in strategy performance across the Partnership.

You will be presenting to the highest levels of leadership within World Vision and engaged in high profile assignments that have the potential to radically transform all aspects of the organization.

Develop & maintain cutting edge strategy tools that add value to all entities across the Partnership:

  • Maintain and track strategy development of Field & Support Offices through FY20.

  • Work with GFO, GRD, Regional Offices Field Offices and Support Offices to break through challenges and accelerate progress of strategy alignment plans.

  • Develop and provide change management tools to address mindset and behaviour shifts that accompany strategy realisation.

  • Provide strategic advice to key stakeholders developing materials, recommendations and guidance documents as required.

  • Model new behaviours in agility, flexibility and service excellence.

Re-activate and nurture the Partnership strategy & innovation network in service of realising Our Promise:

  • Build ownership across Field, Region, and Support Offices by establishing working committees on agreed topics that provides highest leverage for strategy realisation.

  • Ensure Partnership strategy & innovation networks are actively engaged in support of the Partnership Resource Allocation Committee – in particular in the preparation of inputs to critical decisions, the receipt and cross-functional review of targets and recommendations and in tracking progress to achieving entity level targets.

  • Provide appropriate leadership development and career incentives to be an active network member e.g. secondments, visibility with executive leaders, strengthening skills and capabilities.

Orchestrate Partnership level strategy operations, ensuring entities have access to skills / services required:

  • Support key strategic decision making across the Partnership through consultancy type projects and engaging SRI senior analysts in discrete value-add assignments.

  • Ensure that Partnership level strategic operations are in direct alignment to the expectations of the Strategy Realisation Office and SRSC.

  • Lead the continual improvement of strategy operations with particular emphasis on streamlining and simplifying processes and systems.

  • Strengthen relationships with Regional Field and Support Office strategy leads to help ensure strategy function is providing maximum value.

  • Working with Senior Director of Innovation to provide strategic focus on innovation and input future-focused perspectives into entity strategies:

  • As the Innovation team builds, identifies, and scales field-facing innovations, it will be important to focus these efforts on the highest priority areas of OP2030 and entity strategies. The Senior Director will help to provide this focus by engaging with Field and Support Offices on areas of priority.

  • In turn, as innovations and future trends are explored, the Senior Director will help to ensure these are adequately reflected in future strategic planning efforts and resources.

  • Working with Senior Director of Strategy Execution and Optimisation to build agility into strategic plans and decisions based on OP2030 progress and global optimization:

  • Multi-year strategies need to be agile. As performance of OP2030 is tracked, the Senior Director will help to build agility for Field and Support Offices to respond to global optimisation efforts and their yearly progress toward strategic targets.

  • Coach a cohort of SRI senior & junior analysts ensuring they feel connected to the broader work of World Vision, engaged in their work, able to develop their skills base and are generally enjoying their tenure with the SRI team.



  • Master's degree preferred, in economics, business administration, public administration, international development or related field.

  • Solid track record in management consulting, corporate strategy and performance management.

  • Broad and deep experience in several functions, esp. on international development and management and cross-functional senior management experiences within WV.


  • Ability to think globally and look at the macro, strategic issues to inform strategy choices and management process.

  • Deep appreciation for strategic operations in complexity and proven track record in developing approaches that simplify and streamline business processes.

  • Demonstrates ability to persuade, convince, or influence others to commit to actions or products, which he or she finds of value; convinces others by understanding their needs and relating the action or product to their needs.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strategic Planning Knowledge and skills: Demonstrates an ability to perform strategic business planning including identifying existing and emerging issues of strategic importance, overseeing analysis, strategy communication and opportunity recognition. Skills in developing position papers using research and strategic thinking is required.

  • International Development: Strong knowledge and understanding of humanitarian industry (relief, development, and advocacy), including how INGOs operate in the global and local contexts. Understanding WV current ministry and operations is critical.

  • Finance and funding Knowledge: Applies understanding of the broad financial basis of the organization, strategic resource allocation, and understanding funding model.

  • Digital business transformation: understanding of the impact that digital transformation may have on established businesses and stakeholders. Skilled in facilitating and developing accountable ownership of emerging strategic digital capabilities across business operations and functions.

  • Biblical Scripture Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge of biblical scripture by accurately applying biblical scripture in decisions, recommendations, and actions.

  • Business Know-How: Applies a broad-based understanding of key business fundamentals with knowledge of World Vision’s organization, strategic relationships, and the business/political environment. Uses a high-level understanding of finance, operations, marketing, information systems, and human resources to manage across departmental and functional lines. Evaluates and manages risks to the organization at all levels

  • Performance Management: Demonstrates ability to design and implement performance management system, monitor leadership performance, report and document performance, and develop recommendation for strategy development and goals setting.

  • Written Communication: Expresses ideas, thoughts, and concepts clearly and effectively in writing, using correct and appropriate grammar, organization and structure.

Language Proficiency:

  • The ability to speak, understand and write fluently in English.

Work Environment:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time.
