Senior Director Strategy Execution and Optimisation

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Strategy Realisation and Innovation (SRI) team, is looking for an excellent senior director to champion strategy execution and leverage Our Promise 2030 to optimize Partnership operations.

As the Senior Director for Strategy Execution and Optimisation you will develop, guide and oversee the portfolio of initiatives in support of Our Promise 2030.

Starting with the Strategy Realisation Office, you will strengthen program governance by working with Initiative Leaders to clearly articulate the scope, deliverables, working groups and interdependencies of the strategic initiatives prioritized and tracked by the Strategy Realisation Steering Committee.

You will work with the Partnership Leader, Strategy Realisation & Innovation to track progress, identify and escalate issues and explore course corrections required to capture the full value of the choices defined in Our Promise 2030.

As a member of the SRI senior leadership team you will shape team objectives, guide priorities and ensure that the team is fully aligned and fulfilling the expectations of the Strategy Realisation Steering Committee.

Through regular leadership discussions you will manage a pool of SRI analysts and project managers, ensuring that all team members are fully utilized problem solving – by providing either project management, organisational design, business analysis, functional analysis, data analysis, or data analytics skills and expertise in support of strategy realization efforts – as issues and needs arise.

You will work with the Partnership Leader Strategy Realisation and Innovation to nurture a collaborative team spirit, creating space for team members to step up, develop their leadership potential and enjoy their work within the SRI.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure Our Promise 2030 Strategic Initiative portfolio deliverables are scoped, planned, and aligned across the Partnership to ensure ongoing execution by working with designated Initiative Leaders:

  • Develop and maintain an SRO-wide view of the priority initiatives underway at any point in time.

  • Ensure an active focus on interdependencies, risks and issues that may fall outside any one Initiative Leader.

  • Establish and track initiative performance through clear KPIs and regular reporting.

  • Set up and provide oversight to monthly management reporting systems that ensure all SRSC members are aware of key developments and issues in a timely manner.

  • Work with the Partnership Leader Strategy Realisation & innovation to surface critical issues and negotiate changes in scope with the SRSC as required.

Working with the Senior Director of Strategic Engagement, design and co-orchestrate Partnership level strategy operations ensuring entities have access to skills / services required within the SRI:

  • Ensure the SRI team is fully utilized in support of strategy realization efforts and engaged in assignments that assess and resolve complex problems that hinder global operational effectiveness.

  • Ensure the Partnership Resource Allocation Committee has access to the full breadth of skills and experience available within the SRI team.

  • Establish a mechanism to manage SRI team work requests, working with business partners and Partnership Leaders to define work requests ensuring the SRI team has clear deliverables that meet stakeholder expectations.

Strengthen strategic portfolio governance:

  • Ensure strategic initiatives are set up so that the right people make the right decisions at the right time.

  • Equip Initiative leaders with the right information at the right time so they can work with Initiative Executives and the SRSC to resolve open issues.

Establish effective mechanisms for tracking Partnership progress towards Our Promise:

  • Provide visibility of Initiative progress to plan.

  • Create space to celebrate achievements and encourage initiative teams (and the Partnership) as milestones are achieved and critical issues are resolved.

  • Highlight performance gaps or issues that need to be addressed to assure strategy realization efforts.

  • Model new behaviours in mutual accountability ensuring that the SRO and SRI teams are held accountable for their performance.

Drive continual improvement and opportunities for effective optimisation at a global level:

  • Champion opportunities for continual improvement, and work with relevant business owners to test hypothesis and generate the data required to build a compelling case for change.

  • Support World Vision efforts to increase operational agility – enabling rapid, high quality decisions and early escalation of strategic issues.

  • Retain a healthy curiosity (timely truth telling with love) challenging business as usual and exploring opportunities to improve operational bottlenecks that constrain strategy realization.

  • Coach a cohort of SRI senior & junior analysts ensuring they feel connected to the broader work of World Vision, engaged in their work, able to develop their skills base and are generally enjoying their tenure with the SRI team.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education/Experience:

  • Master's degree preferred, in economics, business administration, public administration, international development or related field.

  • 10+ years in a senior leadership (COO or similar) position.

  • Proven track record of portfolio management, programme governance in international development or corporate, private sector.

  • Proven track record of successful strategic delivery and management of business and digital transformation including big data, data analytics, and B2B/B2C eCommerce.

  • Formal programme management qualification.

  • Broad and deep experience in several functions, esp. on international development and management and cross-functional senior management experiences within WV.

Language Proficiency:

  • The ability to speak, understand and write fluently in English.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strategic Planning Knowledge and skills: Demonstrates an ability to perform strategic business planning including identifying existing and emerging issues of strategic importance, overseeing analysis, strategy communication and opportunity recognition. Skills in developing position papers using research and strategic thinking is required.

  • Digital business transformation: experience of leading digital and B2B/B2C eCommerce strategy including digital product design, electronic distribution, customer intelligence, big data analytics, and data strategy (governance, master data management, data sourcing) through the business and technical development lifecycle. Awareness and knowledge of regional regulatory, legal, and compliance issues as they may apply.

  • Finance and funding Knowledge: Applies understanding of the broad financial basis of the organization, strategic resource allocation, and understanding funding model.

  • Biblical Scripture Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge of biblical scripture by accurately applying biblical scripture in decisions, recommendations, and actions.

  • Business Know-How: Applies a broad-based understanding of key business fundamentals with knowledge of World Vision’s organization, strategic relationships, and the business/political environment. Uses a high-level understanding of finance, operations, marketing, information systems, and human resources to manage across departmental and functional lines. Evaluates and manages risks to the organization at all levels.

  • Performance Management: Demonstrates ability to design and implement performance management system, monitor leadership performance, report and document performance, and develop recommendation for strategy development and goals setting.

  • Written Communication: Expresses ideas, thoughts, and concepts clearly and effectively in writing, using correct and appropriate grammar, organization and structure.

Preferred:

  • International Development: Strong knowledge and understanding of humanitarian industry (relief, development, and advocacy), including how INGOs operate in the global and local contexts. Understanding WV current ministry and operations is critical.

Work Environment:
