Purpose of position:

Clinical psychiatrist will be responsible for analyzing a patient's mental health status and providing the necessary treatment. They will admit patients into WV’s Mental Health Clinic, order tests, prescribe medication or recommend therapy. Additionally, they hold regular discussions with patients to diagnose mental disorders or assess a patent's response to treatment. The Psychiatrist will work in liaison with staff from mobile and static clinics and the clinical psychologist.


  • Prescribe, direct, or administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.

  • Analyze and evaluate patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder.

  • Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.

  • Design individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.

  • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients, relatives, or other professionals.

  • Counsel outpatients or other patients during office visits.

  • Examine or conduct diagnostic tests on patients to provide information on general physical condition or mental disorder.

  • Advise or inform guardians, relatives, or significant others of patients' conditions or treatment.

  • Prepare and submit case reports or summaries to WV, government or mental health agencies.

  • Participate in mental health promotion activities or maintain community mental health services or delivery systems.

  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Should be prepared to travel to WV supported clinics within Sulaimaniyah governorate.

Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar educational background preferably in Psychology, clinical Psychology or Medicine –with experience/post basic training in Psychiatry

  • Should be registered and allowed to practice as a psychiatrist in KRI. If not yet completed post graduate should be able to provide letter clearing him/her to practice

  • Candidate should have certificates to prove the qualifications and experience.

  • 2 years’ experience in work, Preferably experience in providing clinical psychology, counselling, psychiatry consultations, protection issues, Training experience, Experience of managing or establishing projects.

  • Fluent in Local language Kurdish and Arabic.

  • Proficient English communication skills (both oral and written).
