Senior Nutrition Officer


Position Title: Senior Nutrition Officer


Under the overall supervision of the South Syria area manager , the Senior Nutrition Officer will be lead the implementation of World Vision’s-UNICEF nutrition programming in South Syria. The role will be responsible for coordinating with UNICEF and partners and other Nutritionactors to ensure World Vision’s-UNICEF Nutrition program is delivered on time, on budget and to a high technical standard as per the work plan.The Senior Nutrition Officer will also lead World Vision’s engagement with the Nutrition Sector Working Group to ensure our programming is aligned with broader initiatives in the sector and well-coordinated with the work of other actors. The Senior Nutrition Officer will work with World Vision’s Health Technical Adviser and other SMART-trained nutrition staff working on programming in South Syria to lead the roll out of a high quality SMART survey in 2017.

Major Responsibilities:

The Senior Nutrition Officer for South Syria will be the focal point for the implementation of WV-UNICEF nutrition projects. S/he supports the quality implementation of the nutrition programming in partnership with UNICEF and other nutrition actors. He / She will coordinate closely with other actors in nutrition to ensure World Vision understands who is doing what, where and that our work is well coordinated with other nutrition actors. S/he will be responsible for liaising closely with UNICEF and WFP to ensure strong nutrition programming.

  • Objective 1: Ensuring quality Implementation of WVs-UNICEF South Syria Nutrition ProjectIn coordination with The Health Project Manager, manage the delivery of Nutrition Project activities and interventions as per the agreed work plan with UNICEF.

  • Liaise with the partner to ensure strong program delivery, and complementarity.

  • Review program reporting, identify issues in implementation and recommend and implement approaches to strengthen program implementation

  • Draft program reporting and other documents

  • Working with the supply chain team, support the timely delivery of nutrition supplies and ensure supporting documentation is received to verify delivery

  • Follow up on the results of activities and interventions implemented

  • Prepare and update supporting documents (work plan, cash flow projections, training plans, staffing plans) to ensure strong project implementation

  • Manage the budget and ensure all spending is transparent and provides value for money.

  • Objective 2: Provide Technical Oversight for Nutrition Interventions and ActivitiesMonitor program reporting to ensure programming is delivered in line with best practice standards for nutrition programming

  • Mentor and train project staff to ensure a high quality of program delivery

  • Develop training tools, curriculums and ensure smooth capacity development activities as per the plan.

  • Collaborate with relevant organizations and partners to ensure World Visions programming is in line with nutrition sector working group standards and approaches

  • Liaise with other nutrition actors to deliver a high quality SMART Survey

  • Contribute to efforts in the nutrition working group to develop standards and approaches for nutrition programming in South Syria

  • Document lessons learnt, challenges and best practice and share lessons with other nutrition actors.

  • Objective 3: Ensure timely project compliance and reporting Monitor implementation and achievement of program indicators. Develop plans to adjust programming to address issues

  • Assist in the preparation of data and information reports and all related documents on a monthly basis including the 4 W and inputs for the sector Sitreps

  • Keep and file data, records and correspondences related to the project.

  • Support field staff in dealing with relevant organisations, institutions and donors

  • Check and verify source documents for accuracy, where necessary (Validation of reporting)

  • Ensure strong documentation is in place to verify the delivery and use of supplies, the receipt of salaries by staff in South Syria and the achievement of program objectives

  • Check completed work for accuracy and store completed documents

  • Respond to requests for information

  • Comply with data Integrity and security policies.

  • Any other duty as assigned by the South Area manager

Education:Masters or University degree in nutrition or related field


  • At Least five-year experience in management of nutrition projects

  • Experience in cross-border programming in South Syria

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bilingual (Arabic & English), good command (written and spoken) in both languages

  • Ability to work individually and in a team

  • Attention to detail

  • Time management skills

  • Excellent communication and co-operation skills.

  • Ability to cope and work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team.

  • Computer literate mainly in Microsoft Office package
