Hygiene and Health promoter


Position Title: Hygiene and Health promoter


To implement, and monitor the WASH and health interventions within World Vision’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program in the Amman, Zarqa, Irbid and Azraq camp, with the goal to improve the public health of the target population.To support implementation of planned hygiene promotion activities that will be conducted in communities surrounding targeted schools.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Train Teachers and facilitators on the curriculum of the Behavior change and Hygiene promotion

  • Establish WASH community groups and sub community groups in the communities surrounding targeted schools, mainly from cash assistant beneficiaries

  • Facilitate, Monitor and provide support to WASH community group to conduct monthly discussions and activities on the household or school level hygiene practices, water conservation, waste disposal, water borne diseases and other issues that the community decide on.

  • Facilitate and supervise and monitor conducting community outreach session by WASH groups at the end of the project to share what they have learned with the surrounding community.

  • Organize community outreach activities in the communities surrounding the targeted schools to celebrate World Toilet Day and World Water Day

  • Report to WASH program manager , on the attendance of the WASH community groups activities on a monthly basis.

  • Prepare progress report outlining project activities on a regular basis

Participate in Hygiene Promotion materials development and field testing

  • Coordinate with behavior change communication specialist & WASH program manager and seek technical support in designing /planning community activities.

  • Coordinate with any local partner Hygiene Promotion team on implemented School based hygiene promotion activities and connect local community with targeted school.


Bachelor’s degree in a WASH and health related field (Preferred: Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition etc.) or a Bachelor’s degree in another field with 2 years complimentary WASH and health experience.

Experience:Relevant Experience in relief project implementation or relevant experience in a job with transferable skills (e.g. nursing, plumber, teaching).Experience in local community and within an NGO context (strongly preferred).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills (English & Arabic)

  • Proven ability to build capacity of partners/ stakeholders through formal trainings and informal job shadowing and mentoring

  • Ability to monitor work of project-hired contractors

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Must have cross-cultural sensitivity, problem solving and negotiation skills.

  • Must have a genuine concern to help the Syrian Refugees

  • Good team building skills; a creative, innovative, and adaptability personality.

  • Ability to cope and work under pressure.

  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural and difficult / sensitive contexts.

  • Ability to spend 100% of job in the field

  • Ability to review and write reports

  • Ability to manage data effectively

  • Has strong knowledge of core principles of Children Rights, Participation, Do No Harm, as well as Children in Emergencies minimum standards.

  • Has strong knowledge about WASH distribution

  • Position requires willingness and ability to continue to function during a crisis situation, including during a World Vision response to a manmade or natural disaster.
