PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the position is to implement, and monitor the WASH interventions within World Vision’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program in the Bekaa, to improve the WASH aspects of the target population.
End Results Expected
Conduct Awareness sessions
Identify the most appropriate hygiene messages to be disseminated to target population.
Identify and conduct hygiene sessions needed in the informal settlements based on the results of the applicable assessment healthy camp tools in the field.
Deliver WASH promotion sessions to raise WASH standards and practices among targeted communities.
Timing implementation of project interventions to the target beneficiaries, while continually learning and adjusting the operational approaches.
Project progress is regularly and accurately reported to Project Manager for decision making and accountability
Implement Awareness activities and events
Coordinate with the Hygiene Behavioral Change Coordinator in implementing the project’s common activities in order to ensure integrity in the quality of World Vision’s WASH programs intervention.
Plan the activities and events based on HMCT and on field observation
Elaborate and evaluate the necessary materials needed for a campaign/activity
Plan and conduct the distribution in an appropriate and safe manner.
Implement WASH promotion initiatives appropriate to the context ensuring the technical and social aspects of water and sanitation programming are integrated.
Supervise the delivery, distribution, and implementation of WASH interventions in tented settlements.
Educate people about key aspects of WASH in a culturally appropriate manner.
Ensure all work is carried out as per the community needs and project standards.
Plan and conduct WASH technical assessments.
Handle community mobilization
Identify natural leaders: Community WASH Focal Points within the target communities, train, and mentor them to be Community mobilizers and WASH committees.
Arrange and plan trainings to the community mobilizers and WASH committees.
Provide active and ongoing technical oversight to Community WASH Focal Points.
Monitor the WASH issues within target communities through the Community WASH Focal Points as well as directly through spot checks and assessments; follow up on the monitoring tools of the community mobilizers and plan sessions & field visits accordingly.
Mobilize communities to increase ownership and maintenance of WASH facilities such as the creation and support of WASH/ hygiene committees, organizing monthly community clean up days.
Mobilize, motivate and encourage potential leaders to talk to their fellow community members about good WASH practices.
Develop trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members.
Active and effective Community WASH Focal Points (e.g. community mobilizers and WASH committees) are addressing the hygiene needs of their own communities.
Report & document
Review daily reports submitted by the Hygiene assistant
Prepare the weekly plan
Prepare a monthly report and submit it to the Hygiene coordinator
Track the target achieved vs indicators
Document and report on conducted activities to ensure that needs assessed are being effectively responded to and that interventions are being documented.
Daily follow up with the Hygiene Behavioral Change Coordinator
Coordinate when needed with the concerned portfolios (mostly with the operations team) in order to respond effectively to the field’s needs.
Report risks and needs
Identify and assess public WASH and hygiene risks and needs
Report areas of concern to the WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene) coordinator.
Report cases to be referred to the hygiene
Perform other duties as required
Attend and participate in capacity building trainings locally and internationally.
Attend and participate in WVL’s spiritual nurture and other organizational events.
Responsible of own security and actively contribute to a positive security culture.
Abide by the security policies and procedures and report any incidents or breaches to line manager and / or security manager.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Line Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in a WASH related field (Preferred: Public Health, Nursing, Teaching etc.) or Bachelor’s degree in another field with 2 years complimentary WASH experience.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Good written and oral communication skills (English & Arabic)
Proven ability to build capacity of partners/ stakeholders through formal trainings and informal job shadowing and mentoring
Ability to monitor work of project-hired contractors
Good interpersonal skills
Must have cross-cultural sensitivity, problem solving and negotiation skills.
Must have a genuine concern to help the Syrian Refugees
Good team building skills; a creative, innovative, and adaptability personality.
Ability to cope and work under pressure.
Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural and difficult / sensitive contexts.
Ability to spend 100% of job in the field

Relevant Experience in relief project implementation or relevant experience in a job with transferable skills (e.g. nursing, plumber, teaching).
Experience in local community and within an NGO context (strongly preferred).
Has strong knowledge of core principles of Children Rights, Participation, Do No Harm, as well as Children in Emergencies minimum standards.
Has strong knowledge about WASH distribution

Position requires willingness and ability to continue to function during a crisis situation, including during a World Vision response to a manmade or natural disaster.
