Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Project Manager- Tenable in Mangochi

Purpose of the position:

To facilitate the implementation of the Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Mangochi district. The overall objective of the project is to provide girls and young women aged 15 to 24 with opportunities to improve their livelihood, while preventing and mitigating HIV/AIDS

Major Responsibilities

  • Overall management of the project according to design documents, ensuring completion of project activities as per project plan.

  • Provide leadership of the project management unit; M&E Officer, Finance Officer, Administrative Assistant and Field Officers.

  • Provide strategic and technical advice to project staff, district, faith-based and NGO partners in the district pertaining to the project; including capacity building needs and ongoing coaching

  • Collaborate with the District Council through district level forums related to the Youth, in technical coordination, planning and policies

  • Contribute to project work plans, fine-tuning of tools for assessment, monitoring and evaluation by working closely with the National Office Specialists, specifically DME, to ensure quality monitoring of the project output indicators

  • Participate in meetings with Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and WVM National Office in Lilongwe- to share progress, lessons and best practices, plus to keep them abreast of relevant Youth-related initiatives in the district

  • Compile and submit narrative and financial reports in compliance with project reporting requirements; ensuring to remain within the work plan and budget

  • Document and share all requisite information and success stories

  • Any other related duties as designated by supervisor

Prerequisite:

  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Minimum Qualification required:

    • Bachelors degree related to Education, Public Health or Project Management

  • Experience:

    • At least 5 years of demonstrable experience in health project/programs management; at least 2 years must be with registered NGO or INGO

    • Experience in relevant technical fields (education, public health, community development etc.)

    • Proven track record in coaching project implementation teams for successful execution of projects

    • Highly developed communication and group facilitation skills, including ability to deliver compelling presentations and facilitate learning

  • Experience managing highly risky projects/grants with minimal supervision

  • Experience working with youth programmes or knowledge of youth challenges

    • Experience in capacity building for Government, NGO, and community structures

    • Ability to identify and compile appropriate resources and ‘tools’ for use by implementation teams

    • Proven ability to build effective networks and coordination with field partners from multiple technical sectors

    • Excellent command of written English with experience in donor reporting .

    • Proven ability to write authoritative reports for publication and discussion.

    • Experience in Gender , life skills education and Sexual reproductive health issues will be an added advantage

  • Preferred:

    • Post graduate degree in Education, Public Health or Project Management; or related Bachelor degree with accredited certification in Project Management plus 2 or more years of experience in managing related technical projects
