Senior Grants Accountant

Local Position( No relocation)

Purpose of the position

To provide financial services to the Grant Finance Unit in terms of preparing Grant Financial Reports and maintaining Grant files to enhance efficient and effective donor accountability.

Major Responsibilities:(please define in output format – 1-10 things of what you expect to see as a resultof this position)

Facilitate the collection of LDRs for all field grant staff when they are due so that they can be used for coding salary vouchers and avoid question cost to the project and reconcile LDRs with payroll for grants staff in adherence to LDR Policy thereby ensuring that staff salaries are correctly allocated to projects .

Receive and process payment on all grants transactions in compliance with grants regulations and World Vision policies.

Update all grant files at all times so that correct information is readily accessible when required and participate in budget preparation during grants and project acquisition.

Management of advances for all grant staff. Ensuring compliance to WV policies.

Make periodic visits to project sites to monitor internal controls and audit implementations as a way of ensuring reduced incidences of risk within the programme.

Implement audit recommendations in a timely manner and provide assistance during project audits

Monitor project spending against budget to assure that spending occurs in line with budget to minimize year-end overspending for effective budget management.

Ensure safe custody of assets as per WV Policies and perform periodic checks.

Prepare Grants report for various donors for accountability, transparency and good stewardship and proper project close-out.

Other Competencies/Attributes:

Knowledge in computing and specifically with Sunsytem and Accounting package

Knowledge in Grant Management

Good communications skills with English proficiency.

Ability to manage people

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

1. At least a first Degree in Accounting with 3 years’ work experience in an international NGO

Working Environment / Conditions:

Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field

Travel: 15% Domestic/international travel is required.

On call: 5%
