Economic Development Advisor

Job Description

Position: Economic Development Advisor

Reports to:World Vision Mali-Mauritania Program Effectiveness Director

Provides supervision to: TBD

Location:TBD (Bamako or Field)

*Contract:Local / No relocation

Purpose of the position:

The objective is to contribute to the reduction of poverty through the improvement of household economy of the vulnerable groups specially the women and the reinforcement of the institutional capacities of the micro-finance actors in the project area of intervention, so as to ensure the availability of different and durable economics’ opportunities for the vulnerable groups.

Major Responsibilities:

Support WV Mali staff, communities and local partners to understand the system and the approach of the Economic Development projects Model( Savings Groups, Business Facilitation and Local Value chain ) and the connection between Savings Groups and the local Microfinance Institution’s. Ensure the partnering between WV Mali and the Micro-finance actors.

Support communities through field Staff to understand the role, responsibilities, right & obligations of every stake holder (World Vision, village monitoring comity, saving and loan institute, local banks, women group members of the SG…etc.),

Bring women through field staff to identify among them their village agent (AV) for the Savings Groups activities monitoring and accept to work with a neighboring village agent,

Train the Saving Groups established by WVN projects to use appropriate techniques and methodologies and operate with the strict respect of WVI Standards.

Establish partnership relation with the saving groups by favoring discussion and listening,

Provide quality service through Saving groups, Business Facilitation and LVCD capacity reinforcement by adopting participative methods.

Ensure the WVI’s MIS updating every 2 months.

Produce and submit monthly report to supervisors or on request participate once per month to the partners meeting, team meeting or WVN concerning the activities of the sector.

Take advantage of all economics’ opportunities and share them with the saving group’s members, team members and WV Mali management as well.

Establish and share lists of the micro-finance institutes, private commercial capable to provide loan, the industrials organizations liable to provide loan to the communities.

Train and sensitizes the saving groups according to their wishes and using the approved project documents.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

MBA degree in microfinance, banking, economics or a related field

3 years’ experience in microenterprise or finance in a similar NGO.

Local languages proficiency

Strong commitment to WV’s vision, mission and core values

Creative and able to apply innovative thinking and problem solving skills;

Is able to promote a healthy work environment for self and others whereby a balance is maintained between work and recreation/family

Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build personal relationships with the teams.

Proficiency in written and spoken French and English.

Excellent networker

Demonstrated well-developed knowledge and sensitivity of cross-cultural communication

Ability to solve complex problems and to exercise technical and independent judgment.

Computer literate in Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes or similar database, email and internet programs.
