Child Protection Specialist, Mauritania

The purpose of the position is to oversee all protection activities in M’berra refugee camp and host communities of Bassikounou as agreed upon between World Vision Mauritania and its partners. Besides, the position covers child protection, community based protection, education and economic inclusion of refugees and host communities technically. This role will also manage staff under his/her supervision for results delivery.


  • Support in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of multiple projects under the Children in Emergencies and refugees protection projects of World Vision's intervention in Bassikounou.

  • Strengthen the capacity of the response program staff as well as community volunteers and other actors in the field of child protection in emergencies and community-based protection of beneficiaries in and out of refugee camp.

  • Participate in resource mobilization for the Bassikounou Response Program through designing innovative concept notes.

  • Coordinate and manage refugee and host community interventions for Bassikounou response.

  • Establish networks, participate in inter-agency meetings on child protection, community based protection with partners and other actors and establish, coordinate and reinvigorate community based protection mechanisms.

  • Participate in identifying advocacy themes and, develop advocacy and awareness material both in the community and with the administration for peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities.

  • Strengthen the project team in the management of children at risk, people of concerns cases and support the team in organizing community mobilization campaigns for community-based protection.

  • Participate in drafting Standard of Operations Procedures (SOP) in the various areas of intervention in collaboration with partners and ensure they are implemented by World Vision teams.

  • Strengthen the team in the use of the appropriate forms in the field of child protection: Best Interest Assessment (BIA), Best Interest Determination (BID), case management sheet until the closing of the identified cases, filling in the child protection forms.


  • Have a Master's degree in Social Sciences, International Development, Community Development, Communication for Development, Law, Education or Similar Qualifications and relevant experience.

  • Have at least two years' experience in the humanitarian field, especially with the protection of refugees in general and children in particular. Experience in community organizing and community based protection mechanisms and projects

  • management. Having worked with multilaterals is an advantage. Extensive knowledge of operations in refugee camps.

  • Fluency in French both written and spoken.

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in French and English, knowledge of Arabic language is an advantage.

Work Environment/Travel:
