Advisor, Child Protection & Child Focus

Job Description

*Position to be located within South Asia where WVI is registered to operate.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Provide strategic leadership and technical support to South Asia and Pacific Regional and National Offices in the areas of Child Protection. This includes working with National Offices to ensure the availability of technical advice, capacity and support to maximize their strategic child protection achievements. The position will also facilitate collaboration with the broader regional team and external networks in advancing child protection related issues and initiative.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP AND STRATEGY

Develop integrated Child Protection and child focus guidance in alignment with global Child Protection strategies, policies and guidance at regional and national level and provide oversight for this implementation.

Provide oversight and advice to major Child Protection initiatives in the region and ensure compliance with WVI Child Protection standards, protocols and policy.

Support the campaign to end violence against children

Technical Support

Coordinate and advice implementation of the technical guidance including leading reviews for Technical Approaches and Program on Child protection and others and conduct regular performance review of the targets set as part of the regional strategy score card

Provide leadership and advice in mainstreaming and scaling up evidenced based best practices in child protection including various child protection models and building national capacities.

Explore potential funding sources for Child Protection to support National Offices and work with appropriate staff on these opportunities and provide technical assistance for Child Protection project design work in the region.

Child Safe Organisation leadership:

Advice and support NOs in every Level 2 and 3 incident reported, including timely and thorough reporting and use of Ethics Point, participation and leadership on Global Center-led Incident Management calls, and ensuring timely follow-up actions and incident closures within 90 days (“pending closure” status).

Coach mentor and train NO CP leads and back-ups in back-end access use of Ethics Point for efficient reporting and management of Level 1 CP Incidents. Monitor NOs’ Level 1 incidents and respond in EP with questions and guidance. Provide support for National Office in Child Safe Organization polices, its execution and operational management.

Support NOs in addressing and filling all actionable gaps as prevention measure, to ensure full preparation for CP element of internal audit.

Collaboratively complete RO-level CP Update Report and action plan each year in close coordination with SDO, P&C, Sponsorship, DM&E, other sectoral leads, and other teams and provide analytical report to regional leadership.

External Engagement and Collaboration

Provide support in coordinating engagement and frontline work for the Child Protection sector within SACG, SAIEVAC, ASEAN and other identified stakeholders.

Support regional and national leadership in articulating policy positions and enhancing the visibility of WV in their respective countries and within the Region

Represent WV in global, regional and national Child protection events, conferences, fora, seminars and technical working groups

Participate in the global Child Protection communities of practice and major Child Protection initiatives in the region.

Provide technical advice, support and monitor Child Protection in emergencies situations and make recommendations for action

Collaborate closely with sponsorship leadership in region and in National Offices to ensure Child Protection priorities and learning incorporated fully into sponsorship processes, data collection and learning.

GENERAL

Promote and maintain open communications within the multiple leadership levels in the Region.

Facilitate ministry fundraising support within the Development, Learning and Impact team.

To strengthen impact, provide organizational support to NO’s for design and structuring of Child Protection functions.

Be available for other assignments as deemed necessary by the Programmes Director and Regional Leadership.

Provide Christian leadership and support, enriching our organisation’s spiritual life and faith, to empower our region’s commitment to seek justice and address the needs of the most vulnerable children.

As appropriate, promote cost effective learning and collaboration with East Asia, to increase staff competencies, programme impact and resource generation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education

Advanced degree (e.g. Master’s degree in law, social science, politics, international development studies or other related professional degree), MBA or other relevant degree or experience

Skills & Knowledge

Strategic thinking and strategy development

In-depth understanding of key aspects of child protection and campaigns, demonstrable understanding of the essentials of transformational development and humanitarian programming.

Understanding and experience in research and policy development, preferably in key aspects of child rights and child vulnerability

Knowledge on how the various technical sectors food security, primary health care, education, micro enterprises development, etc. impact on child well being

Leadership, negotiation, organizational, problem solving and management skills.

Relational awareness, team player and social maturity

Excellent writing and speaking skills

Competent in the use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Self motivated to achieve quality results and services

Experience

A minimum of five or more years of experience in outcome-oriented advocacy

Work Environment

Some level of travel (up to 30%) is expected within the region and to other places.
