Business Intelligence Developer/Analyst II

Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Design, develop and validate various components of the Business Intelligence environment, which include building of data warehouse, data marts and other related business intelligence initiative of the organization.

Provide support in establishment of policies, procedure and setting monitoring standard relating to management, maintenance and utilization of Business Intelligence components.

Create data documentation and detailed technical design for the implementation of the BI products delivered for business use.

Collaborate with technology/solution architect, database administrator, application developers and project managers in building and optimizing data warehouse/business intelligence environment.

The Business Intelligence Analyst II provides support for user community. Works on medium complexity tasks within one or more functional areas, and multiple tasks/projects as a team member. They identify and recommend technology solutions.

Individuals within the Business Intelligence (BI) job family work closely with customers, business analysts, system analysts, and applications developers to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. They provide data that is congruent and reliable, and the information must be easily accessible by the user. BI professionals educate and train customers to use the data as an analytical tool, displaying the information in new form and content for the purpose of analysis and exploring options.

Individuals working in the Business Intelligence job family understand how data is turned into information and knowledge and how the knowledge supports and enables key business processes. They must have an in-depth understanding of the business environment and an interest in going beyond the obvious, delving into the source, the definition, philosophy and foundational roots of a data element in order to create information. They must work well within a team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project/Work Planning:

  • Participates in or supports work stream planning process.

Business Requirements:

  • Works with business partners to gather and validate requirements.

  • Develops and writes, and business requirements and functional specifications for the design and implementation of solutions.

  • Determines and analyzes commonly used queries.

  • Interfaces with business partners to understand and identify the need for new products and services.

Design/Develop:

  • Analyzes, designs and develops business intelligence BI applications/solutions.

  • Analyzes, designs, develops and deploys query parameters, layout, filters and analytics for business solutions.

  • Builds standard and custom reports.

  • Installs catalogs and reports in databases according to specifications.

Testing:

  • Develops, executes and documents test plans.

  • Provides support to test teams.

  • Resolves issues based on test results.

Support:

  • Provides adhoc, warranty, and post implementation phase support.

  • Troubleshoots solution outputs.

  • Tracks performance and production problem.

  • May performance tune BI applications.

Info Quality Assurance:

  • Verifies the collected data is within required quality standards.

  • May maintain the quality of metadata repository by adding, modifying, and deleting data.

  • Creates data quality tickets, as needed.

Research/Evaluation:

  • May participate in vendor evaluations.

Policies, Standards, Procedures:

  • Adheres to current standards.

Training:

  • Coaches and trains customers in the use of the business intelligence solutions to enhance business decision-making capability.

  • Provides guidance, training, and problem solving assistance to other team members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or Related Field

  • 3-5 years of Business Intelligence Development.

  • Strong knowledge and hands on working experience in a Data Warehouse development environment.

  • Strong relational database and SQL Query writing skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Client-facing presence with strong business acumen.

  • Experience on SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS.

  • Ability to develop reports in SSRS, Excel, PowerBI, or similar visualization tools.

  • Understanding of BI design principals.

  • Experience working with source control (ex. TFS).

  • Application Development using any Programming Language.

  • Experience in Mobile development is a plus.

  • MSCE

Preferred:

  • Understand all phases of the system development life cycle.

  • Experience with MDX, DAX, and SSAS Cubes.

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Ability to travel abroad.
