Senior Project Manager, Sponsor Engagement

World Vision is looking for a strong, personable, energetic and highly skilled project manager to lead a portfolio of projects that engage sponsors and connect them with 3.2 million children and their communities.

In this challenging and highly responsible role, you will lead and take end-to-end ownership of the Sponsor Engagement features projects. These projects range from bi-lateral efforts between 2-8 offices, to large, partnership-wide projects that are incorporated into business-as-usual with individual budgets in excess of 1 million USD; they will require you to be agile and proactive – monitoring processes and addressing issues before they create problems.

With extremely tight deadlines and dependencies on multiple offices, teams, vendors and technology requiring proactive risk management, this role requires a very disciplined project management capability. This is a role for someone who thrives on challenge and is comfortable adapting plans and projects to ensure the most effective outcomes.

As Senior Project Manager, Sponsor Engagement your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering and managing projects from design through the full project lifecycle of initiation, planning, executing, controlling and closing.

  • Providing a structured project management framework that delivers outcomes on time, on budget and at scope, while mitigating risk.

  • Identifying areas where change is needed and adapting on the go to ensure that the project meets the needs of affected World Vision stakeholders and, ultimately, of sponsors.

  • Collaborating closely with stakeholders at every level the World Vision Partnership and across many countries, cultures and ways of working, to ensure efficient, effective outcomes.

As Senior Project Manager, Sponsor Engagement, you will report to the Director, Sponsor Engagement, and work closely with Senior Advisors, Project Managers and Coordinators, Workstream leaders, Field Engagement Team and Support Offices to coordinate and manage the dependencies and deliverables from each team to deliver the final product, as well as conduct lessons learned, adjust and plan for next year’s cycle with an eye towards continuous quality improvement and refinement.

As Senior Project Manager, Sponsor Engagement you will be the single point of contact for these efforts, providing regular status updates that provide transparency into the effort, raising risks and mitigation options to senior leadership when necessary.


Manage World Vision’s portfolio of Sponsor Engagement features projects:

  • Lead the processes and activities needed to identify, define, combine, unify, and coordinate the various processes and project management activities within the following project management process groups.

  • Organise, manage, and lead the project teams. This may or may not include the direct management of resources, but does include the coordination of project related activities to maintain the timeline, and scope of the project.

  • Manage the processes and activities that determine quality policies, objectives, and responsibilities so that the project will satisfy the needs for which it was undertaken.

  • Ensure timely and appropriate planning, collection, creation, distribution, storage, retrieval, management, control, monitoring, and the ultimate disposition of project information.

  • Monitor timeliness, performance and budgets of both lines of business programmes and projects, along with executive reporting for consistent accountability of key milestones and interdependencies.

  • Ensure that systematic programme and project tracking and reporting.

  • Conduct ongoing risk management planning, identification, analysis, response planning, and control risk on a project.

  • Manage the processes necessary to purchase or acquire products, services, or results needed from outside the project team. Processes in this area include Procurement Planning, Solicitation Planning, Solicitation, Source Selection,

  • Contract Administration, and Contract Closeout.

  • Plan, estimate, budget, finance, fund, manage, and control costs so that the project can be completed within the approved budget.

  • Ensure that the project includes all the work required, and only the work required, to complete the project successfully.

  • Manage the timely completion projects.

Manage relationships to support improved Sponsor Engagement through the World Vision Partnership:

  • Identify all people or organisations impacted by the project, analyse stakeholder expectations and impact on the project, and develop appropriate management strategies for effectively engaging stakeholders in project decisions and execution.

  • Negotiate successful alternative plans as appropriate to keep the overall goals and deliverables on course.

  • Contribute to the development of multi-year Sponsor Engagement strategic priorities and support.

  • Contribute to the development of other team members’ project management skills. Be a part of the broader community of project managers in the partnership.

  • Build and refine the project manager toolkit, practices and methodologies.


  • Master’s degree in project management business administration or related field.

  • Minimum 10 years project management roles working with multiple projects in international organisations.

  • Proven leadership skills.

  • Proved ability to think critically, evaluate effectively, adapt to relevant new information or changing priorities, and negotiate when faced with conflicting expectations.

  • Experience in effectively managing geographically distributed project team to achieve results.

  • Well-developed abilities in solving complex project issues.

  • Excellent analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems. Critical thinking and capability of generating consistently accurate and useful information to inform strategic planning and decisions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work across cultures, demonstrated experience of influence of non-reporting relationships and authority.

  • Proven ability to work proactively, identifying problems and need for change, and adapt plans throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Ability to see the larger picture and analyse details.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with many different functions, cultures and levels in the organisation (written, spoken, digitally and in person).

  • Experience in working across cultures and within complex organisational structures.

  • Leading complex planning workgroups internationally or remotely.

Work Environment/Travel:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
