Faith & Development Advisor

Job Description

Location:Dakar, Senegal

Type of contract: Local contract

Duration of contract : 1year

Purpose of position:

Provide overall technical leadership, guidance in the implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of Christian Commitment strategies and programming, relating to Project Models in TAs, Staff Spiritual Formation in line with MIP, Spiritual Nurture of Children, Interfaith Approach and Church Partnerships

Serve as the bridge between GC, RO and NOs to communicate WV’s Christian Ethos and model spiritual leadership and a life of witness to others. Ensure the implementation, in line with the regional focus, of the Faith & Development related Ministry Policies across WV entities and Programs

Serve as the principal institutional liaison and key representative to external partners, in West Africa; facilitate relationships among project partners and collaborators, coordinate visits to the field, organize meetings, support Grant Acquisition work, trainings and technical exchange

Advice National Directors in F&D related decision, programs/projects implementation and contextualization of child-focused programming and contribute to improvements in CWB, ministry performance and mobilization of resources.

Communicate World Vision's Christian ethos and demonstrate a quality of spiritual life that is an example to others.

Major Responsibilities:

STRATEGY DEFINITION & EXECUTION

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of regional Faith & Development plan and frameworks, in support of and in alignment with NO and global strategies ( OP 2030) and RO priorities, for delivering of on the CWB Aspirations, including the definition of outcomes, strategic objectives and KPIs

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Operation in the allocation of resources to Christian Commitment in WAR

  • Collaborate with other sectors in the development of thematic strategies for Integrated WASH, Combating Child Malnutrition, Combating Malaria and Infectious Diseases, Prevention and Mitigation of Natural Disasters and Quality of Education, to ensure Christian Witness compliance and issues are appropriately integrated and contribute to CWB Target achievement.

  • Support the planning, organizing and support activities related to projects and programs identification, preparation, implementation, management and supervision of Faith and Development in all NOs

  • Support NOs in developing effective LEAP 3 plans and budgets to integrate Faith & Development at all levels, in alignment with Our Promise 2030 and identified Project Models & promising Practices : CFC, Kids Club, CoH-MNCH, CoH-CP, WASH

COLLABORATION AND INTEGRATION

  • In close collaboration with WAR knowledge and management and other regional technical sectors, jointly contribute to definition of thematic strategic objectives, deliverables, outcomes, KPI; ensure that results are tracked and reported according to performance measurement framework and according to WV DM & E standards and procedures for measuring child wellbeing outcomes.

  • Support Church Partnership and the Cooperation between Christian and Muslim for the wellbeing of Children in each national offices

  • Participate in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the “Christian Impact" TDI.

  • Support the implementation of the “Commission on the Church”National Field Recommendations giving particular attention our Promise focus

  • Develop models of integrating Christian Commitments principles and practices into all other areas of WV ministry

  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices on Faith & Development implementation between National Offices.

LEADERSHIP

  • Create and nurture a network of Faith & Development Managers within WAR for the purpose of implementing related strategies and programs.

  • Support capacity building and leadership development for the NO F&D Managers in WAR

  • Guide and advise on Partnership policies and preferred practices relating to Staff Spiritual Formation, Witness to Jesus Christ and Church Relations into strategic actions appropriate to the specific context.

  • Advise NDs on all F&D policies, frameworks, and emerging Global Faith & Development strategic direction such as Giving Word to our Faith, Mission Immersion Program, etc.

  • Support the human resource process of staff recruitment, induction and staff care

DEFINE STANDARDS, SHARE BEST PRACTICES & ASSETS

  • Define and provide standards, project models, methodologies, tools and knowledge repositories in Christian Commitment for the region

  • Identify, disseminate and institutionalize common best practices and assets in Christian Commitment related to improving WASH, combating child malnutrition, combating malaria, mitigation of natural disasters, Advocacy for CWB and improving quality of education

  • Speed the adoption of new solutions and assets and increase consistency and level of quality in program delivery with special focus on fragile context!

BUILD SKILLS & EXPERTISE IN THE REGION

  • Support the identification of key resources in the NOs with the relevant knowledge and skills

  • Support capacity development for NO staff, Faith Leaders, community members,

  • World View understanding in fragile context for successful programming!

PASTORAL CARE

  • Develop and roll out spiritual nurture materials for the WAR staff.

  • Provide staff well-being support in partnership with the P&C Team for West Africa staff

  • Create, and encourage, space for listening and support staff in need

RESOURCES MOBILIZATION

Support countries & WV partnership in mobilizing human, financial resources, & facilitate activities implementation & reporting

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT - THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AND PUBLICATIONS

  • Design & deliver operational research and cutting edge knowledge (knowledge that helps to influence policy, contributes to corporate branding and visibility, improves program quality and for building capacity)

  • Repository of knowledge of best practices in Christian Commitment

  • Establish partnerships with leading universities (locally and internationally), research institutions and Non-governmental Organizations for the purposes of research and scaling up knowledge.

  • Promote studies cross-learning, training, best practices and sharing of experience on issues regarding the 5 core sectors development and related areas in the partnership as related to child well being

PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO ALL NOS

  • Provide the required technical support primarily to the National Offices (NOs) and secondarily to other organizational entities

  • Provide technical expertise to facilitate resource mobilization specifically on programs to combat early marriage, child malnutrition, combat malaria, mitigate natural disasters and improve quality of education and Child Protection in the region

  • Develop Service Level Agreements to define the level of technical support to be delivered and measured to NO.

ESTABLISHMENT OF LINKAGES AND NETWORKING

  • Establish linkages and networks with relevant WV communities of practice and experts, leading institutions, governments and other organizations

  • Establishing effective lines of communication, coordination &networking with other organizations working in the area of child protection and malnutrition and take responsibility for releasing information on this thematic area to relevant parties

REPRESENTATION

  • Develop and nurture strategic partnerships with Churches, and Regional Christian agencies from a broad spectrum of denominations creating platforms to amplify their voices and expand their godly influence on issues relating to holistic mission, including HIV/AIDS.

  • Represent and speak for WV in all Church related forums to discuss issues related to faith and development in each context.

  • Represent the Region in the Global CC forums and regional meetings.

  • Participate in global/regional CC special assignments

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

This is a regional position that requires a person with extensive technical & thought leadership experience in Faith & Development programmanagement and coordination.

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required:

  • Advance degree in Theology (or one of theology sub-specialties: mission, ministry, counseling and pastoral care discipleship, leadership formation etc) or Social Science

  • Four or more yearsexperience in field of children in situations

  • A minimum of 4 years working for a child focus NGO or international agency in the field.

  • Excellent skills required in program design, reporting and documentation, and monitoring and evaluation, and in managing by results

  • Knowledge of community development and adult education,

  • Knowledge of the global Church, Mission and context in the Sahel region,

  • Strong Interfaith and Social Cohesion facilitation and exposure

  • Knowledge of World Vision operations, Regional and NO programming

  • Must be a creative individual with strong sense of vision, commitment and priorities

  • Must have strong organizational skills and an ability to work with diverse teams across considerable distances

  • Public relations, marketing, and communications skills.

  • Strong coordination, presentation, coordination and networking skills

  • Proficiency in use of internet and world-wide web

  • Skills in project management, including managing resources, and financial and budget planning

  • Demonstrated commitment to World Visions mission statement and Core Values Working

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cross cultural experience and sensitivity

  • Bilingual (French and English)

  • Excellent oral, written communication skills and ability to present the issues of children to a variety of audiences.

  • Requires ability to travel up to 35% and work in a variety of locations, some with very basic amenities.

Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field, ability to work with large diversity of individuals and groups in rural and remote areas with diverse culture and believes,

  • Travel: 30% Domestic/international travel is required.

  • On call: Available for communication with partners and colleagues from diverse time zones
