SAP Coummunications and Public Engagement Specialist

Job Description

*Position location to be determined by home country of successful candidate within the South Asia and Pacific (SAP) region where WVI is registered to operate.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The purpose of the role is to provide strategic and technical leadership and support to the Asia Pacific Region in the area of Communications to:

  • Raise awareness and understanding among all stakeholders (both internal and external) of the needs of poor and marginalized children, families and communities in Asia Pacific and of World Vision’s response and impact.

  • Contribute to enhancing the organizational capacity in the regional office and national offices to strategically plan, develop, and package compelling, evidence-based content to effectively and proactively position World Vision as a leading relief, development and advocacy agency in the Asia Pacific.

  • Support national office communications teams to assess and address capacity gaps to ensure teams are working to NO and RO strategies, especially related to strategic content development and delivery.

Major Activities

LEADERSHIP

  1. Support the Regional Communications Director and Regional Leader in the area of communications for effective public positioning of World Vision as a leading relief, development and advocacy agency

  2. Advise National Offices (NO) and regional team on proper engagement with media and publics especially during complex humanitarian emergencies and political, social, economic, environmental and other crises

  3. Practice servant leadership and be a role model for the staff team, peers and others.

  4. Maintain public engagement activities in this region and work closely with Advocacy team

STRATEGY

  1. Support the implementation of regional communications strategy and business plan in support of and in alignment with regional and global communications strategy and priorities.

  2. Identify opportunities to grow and develop World Vision’s Asia Pacific external and internal visibility leveraging content produced by National and Regional Offices (RO).

  3. Represent Asia-Pacific communications at partnership content meetings involving support office and global centre resource requestors/gatherers, and educate partnership stakeholders on regional and national office priorities

  4. Support National Offices in developing effective communication strategies and plans, especially related to content development, that are appropriate to their context in alignment with the regional and global strategies and priorities.

OPERATIONAL (TECHNICAL) SUPPORT

  1. Advise on how the Region and National Offices can effectively coordinate and collaborate on the strategic development and delivery of compelling, evidence-based content (stories, photos, videos), such as professionally gathered, C4D/community voice, and other grass-root content. This includes the use of content calendars and leveraging and global moments.

  2. Work closely with national office communications to lead and manage end-to-end content production process in national offices, including administering the Share assignment management system

  3. Negotiate and manage assignments with support offices and global event teams (ie One Goal, Global Week of Action), including media and resource gathering trips, as needed.

  4. Act as mediator where disagreements between national offices and support offices may occur.

  5. Ensure content produced and shared by national offices are aligned to NO/RO strategic priorities as defined in NO/RO business plans

  6. Provide editorial oversight and collaborate with regional colleagues to promote Asia-Pacific content on www.wvi.org/asiapacific and regional social media accounts (twitter and instagram)

  7. Provide overall reporting regularly on Share and content on Asia-Pacific regional and national office digital channels (ie wvi.org and social media)

  8. Ensure all content posted on regional and NO websites (wvi.org) and relevant social media channels (non-NRD offices) are written and presented in a professional manner, are strategically aligned, and that content is appropriate for public consumption (ie. child protection and risk management protocols are followed) and accurately represents WV’s work and priorities in the Asia-Pacific.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

  1. Coordinate the assessment, development and implementation of an integrated regional capacity building plan that leverages existing capacities and strengths in national offices to support each other on a peer-to-peer basis, such as in storytelling, photography, and video.

  2. Facilitate the process of continuous learning on appropriate communication systems and tools appropriate to the context of the Asia Pacific Region. Ensure NO communications staff are proficient at using World Vision communications systems and processes to optimise sharing and promotion of quality content (Share, Sharefile, DMC/CML, wvcentral, etc.)

  3. Encourage mutual learning on Communication best practices between National Offices within Asia Pacific and between other regions.

  4. Identify, share / facilitate access to communications resources and appropriate materials, learning and support opportunities for National Offices. These may include active involvement in training, engagement of trainers, establishing institutional links, identifying opportunities for staff exchange or mentoring.

INTERNAL LIAISON AND PARTNERSHIP ENGAGEMENT

  1. Act as a strategic link and focal point for regional communications connecting National Offices, Support Offices and Global Centre for mutual support.

  2. Work with other members of the East Asia (EA)/SAP functional groups to ensure that communications can adequately support the wider ministry of World Vision in the region.

GENERAL

  1. Contribute and support activities that will enrich and develop mutual growth in Christ.

  2. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Senior Director of Operations, and the Global Centre Field Communications Director
