World Vision is an International Relief and Development organization, whose goal is to achieve long-lasting benefits in the quality of life for vulnerable children and their families, displaced persons and communities. The Somalia program wishes to invite applications from highly competent dynamic, self driven and results oriented Somali National to fill the following vacancy. The successful candidate will be based in WV Baidoa Office.

Senior Projects Coordinator

The position will help the Operations Manager to coordinate engagement with government and other stakeholders towards successful promotion of child focused, relief and rehabilitative programming in Baidoa.

The position holder will serve as liaison for World Vision with the Local Authority, local communities, UN and NGOs to promote coordination and information-sharing.

The Senior Projects Coordinator will also work closely with Operations Manager in seeking out influencing opportunities in Baidoa to promote child well-being.

The position will work closely with a variety of regional staff in Baidoa and field locations and stakeholders to ensure that World Vision programs are fully implemented in a timely manner. The position will work with Project officers/Project coordinators/managers/Technical specialists to mainstream systems for integration into day to day implementation in all field locations, and that WV is adequately represented in all clusters and working groups.

The job holder will ensure operational effectiveness by following up the implementation of action plans arising from meetings, and project visits

The position holder will provide programmatic and operational support to emergency start-ups in terms of assessments, trainings and roll-out of emergency programs.

Major Responsibilities:

Foster Internal and External Engagement

  • Lead engagement and coordination with the Local Authorities, donors and NGOs

  • Spearhead engagement and information sharing with other agencies to promote better coordination, joint-action and partnership;

  • Ensure information-sharing mechanisms are updated and shared with relevant stakeholders;

  • Develop networks with community members, government officials, LNGO/INGOs to enable World Vision to leverage a collective voice in favor of children and their families, communities and partners;

  • Develop relationships with local authority institutions, influential local authorities, community leaders, other stakeholders to promote wider World Vision engagement and advocacy. Seek out influencing and lobbying opportunities with local authorities to promote child well-being, and assist manager in developing this advocacy work

  • Represent WVs strategic pillars: PDU, SomRep, HEA-Food Assistance and Global Fund with local authority and partners.

  • In collaboration with Operations Manager, strengthen relationships with key stakeholders including local authorities, donors, UN agencies and NGOs

  • Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of the strategy and ensure activities are aligned with the NO strategy and child wellbeing.

  • Keep and share information from INGO meetings, government correspondences and internal World Vision Lessons Learned.

  • Ensure that World Vision is represented in coordination forums and review meetings.

Ensure Operation effectiveness

  • Establish system for implementing action plans developed during meetings, project field visits and engagement meetings.

  • Support the Operations Manager to identify key training needs, and proactively seek and promote appropriate training opportunities for staff.

  • That action plans are collated and shared with relevant teams for implementation

  • Work with Project team and a variety of internal stakeholders, to ensure that action plans are implemented in a timely manner

  • Gather, collate and provide analysis of operational needs across all WV operational areas in the region

  • Under the guidance of the Operations manager and working closely with Support services units and project managers, ensure that operating needs are addressed

  • Participate in various internal structures/committees (ERDM, RISK& AUDIT, CMT,TC,GIK TEECAP. TC etc.).

Emergency response and start up activities

  • Under the guidance of HEA manager/ Advisor, ensure the regional disaster preparedness plans are reviewed and updated annually

  • Liaise with the HEA manager and DME manager to ensure that early warning information are collected, collated and reported on quarterly basis or as agreed with the HEA manager

  • Collect or coordinate collection information gathering for CAT declaration and Response plan development

  • Coordinate initial emergency response startups activities ensuring smooth transition to relevant sectors leads once the sector is assigned


  • Ensure monthly management reports are produced in a timely manner

  • Ensure reports of management meetings are produced and shared in timely manner and actions followed up

  • Ensure annual pans are developed and submitted to the authorities in charge of panning in timely manage

  • Where necessary, ensure reports are submitted to relevant government departments/ministries

Ensure safe and secure working environment

  • adherence to security procedures is in place;

  • Core Security Requirements are implemented in all districts/field locations in timely manner (pending funding availability);

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Educational level required: Bachelors degree in Social sciences or development studies

  • Experience: 7 to 8 years of experience in Relief and Development work with at least with 4 years in senior operations/program management.

  • Knowledge of humanitarian industry including SPHERE standards, Good Enough Guide, NGO code of conduct and humanitarian charter

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Power Pointetc.)

Professional technical skill desired: Excellent organizational, negotiation skills and strong interpersonal skills (certification)

  • Working knowledge of English, and local language.

  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills

  • Proven organizational skills and time management.

  • Must have clear understanding of working of major donors,

  • Self-motivated, with a proven ability to learn quickly, multi-task and work independently as well as part of a team

  • Strong problem solving skills; a keen attention to detail with an analytic approach to work

  • Ability to work under pressure to ensure demanding timescales are met

  • An aptitude for working in a changing environment and managing multiple priorities

  • Ability to work both as part of a team and alone, supervised or unsupervised

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field

  • Travel: 50 % Domestic, with some international travel, as required.

  • On call: 24hours.
