Project Coordinator - Nutrition (Hargeisa)

World Vision Somaliland Program wishes to invite applications from highly competent dynamic, self-driven and results oriented Somaliland Residents to fill the following vacancy to be based in Hargeisa Office.

Project Coordinator: Nutrition – WFP

To oversee the effective implementation of WFP Nutrition project activities in target location as per national and international standards. The Nutrition Coordinator will also be responsible for the supervision and support of nutrition supervisors and works closely with commodity team to ensure the commodities received from WFP are managed properly.

Major Responsibilities:

Oversee quality and timely implementation of project activities

  • Lead the development of project management tools (including DIP, PP, and cash flows. Risk Register, Issues Log, PMIT & ITT) at the start of nutrition projects

  • Ensure project management tools are reviewed and updated on monthly basis and progress towards achieving the targets is evaluated

  • Initiate and oversee the implementation of project activities as per the timeline set on the DIP meeting international and WVI quality standards

  • Ensure that all requests for required project input (from WFP as GIK or procured by WV) are placed on time and items are availed in all project sites

  • Support IYCF and BCC activities by supporting and building the capacity of community nutrition workers

  • Participate in the nutrition needs assessment and design of nutrition projects

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Conduct regular supportive supervision to nutrition activities in health facilities using supervision checklist and compile quality report with action points.

  • Monitor and support the nutrition staff in supervision of nutrition activities and activities of community nutrition workers

  • Participate in joint monitoring visits by either government officials, donor agencies or world vision management teams

  • Active participation and support to Assessments and project M&E activities in the project sites

Quality and Timely reporting

  • Ensure that all health facilities have the required data recording and reporting tools

  • Ensure that all the staff working in the health facilities and their supervisors have adequate understanding of the reporting and recording formats and the importance of accurate reporting

  • Ensure all health centers are submit quality nutrition and commodity movement reports on timely manner

  • Ensure nutrition data is entered, analyzed in the Nutrition databases (CMAM & IYCF) and are utilized to monitor the progress project indicators

  • Projected beneficiary figures are calculated and submitted to commodity team on monthly basis

  • Ensure Quality Nutrition narrative report is prepared and submitted on time

  • Ensure PMIT and MMR report are prepared and submitted on monthly basis

  • Ensure distribution report for Health and Nutrition GIK distributed under the project is compiled and submitted on time

Capacity building

  • Conduct regular capacity assessment to all MOH and WV staff working under the project and prepare plan of capacity building

  • Organize and conduct planned training workshops as per planned timeline, budget and quality

  • Compile and submit quality training report for all trainings conducted in the target locations

  • Conduct regular on-job training for MOH and WVI staff in the HCs to address the findings of supervision and document the trainings in the supervision reports

Finance and budget management

  • Ensure the implementation of project activities within the project budget allocated and any variances are identified and explained

  • Ensure Payment requests for MOH seconded staff and community volunteers is initiated on time with all the required documents

  • Ensure Accurate monthly cash forecast is prepared and submitted on time

  • Business Cash advance to facilitate field activities is requested and cleared on time as per the finance guideline

Representation and internal & external coordination

  • Conduct meeting with community leaders and health committees during supervision visits to get feedback on the quality of the program and update them on the progress of activities

  • Represent WVI in regional and country wide nutrition coordination meetings organized by MOH/WFP and share minutes of the meeting

  • Participate in internal program integration and coordination meetings with other WVI sectors to ensure program integration

  • Participate and represent the Nutrition program in the internal QRM and present the progress of project activities against targets.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Minimum Qualification required: At least Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public health or any other related study;

  • Experience:

    • At least 4 years’ experience in management of nutrition projects in emergency response context with extensive government engagement experience.

    • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills

    • Demonstrates strong problem solving skills; keen attention to detail with an analytic approach to work

    • Willingness to be flexible with working hours

    • An aptitude for working in a changing environment and managing multiple priorities

    • Ability to work both as part of a team and alone, supervised or unsupervised

    • Relevant experience and ability to manage projects in insecure environments;

    • Experience of working with and/ or commitment to humanitarian standards e.g. SPHERE

  • Technical Skills & Abilities:

    • Professional experience related to behavior change communication and health promotion projects

    • Experience in the management of health services in humanitarian organization

    • Solid experience in training and capacity building experience, particularly using participatory approaches and methods in for training

    • Experience in writing donor and internal reports

    • Good computer skill especially Microsoft office. Data management experience is an added advantage

    • Fluency in English and Somali.
