World Vision Somaliland Program wishes to invite applications from highly competent dynamic, self-driven and results oriented Somaliland Residents to fill the following vacancies to be based in Burao Office.

WASH Project Officer II - SHF

To supervise construction works and help facilitate in formation and training of water committee with a view of improving accessibility to safe and sustainable water, and enhancing hygiene and sanitation practices in the project area

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with all stake holders in conducting periodic assessment, baseline studies, context analysis of field realities and operational environment with the view to advocate for maximum stakeholder participation and beneficiaries selections by engaging community leaders

  • Make innovative ideas of implementing sustainable and appropriate safe water and sanitation solutions. Discuss with the community and local authorities, Regional WASH coordinators from MOWR and make recommendations on innovative ways that beneficiary communities should adopt for improved management and sustainability of community water and sanitation facilities;

  • Prepare project documentation including bills of quantities, drawings, detailed implementation work plans for planned activities, procurement plans and requisitions for required materials to be procured for attention of the immediate supervisor;

  • Coordinate community mobilization, sensitization and assist in formation and training of water and sanitation committees for specific water / sanitation facilities to be developed. Conducting water quality test training with water quality technicians from ministry of water resource and volunteers from Burao community;

  • Assist to coordinate and supervise masonry and concrete construction works at all water and sanitation facilities (Earth dams, Sand dams, institutional latrines, Household latrines, shallow wells, Water pans, boreholes, water connection pipe lines etc.);

  • Ensure all the software component (hygiene promotion activities, water trucking or water transportation & storage facilities distribution (jerry cans and water bladders) etc.) are implemented as per the signed project agreement and the sphere standards;

  • Follow up, inspect and ensure project material are delivered measure to specified deliveries at field level in timely way, and make follow with you supervisor those not delivered as per requisition. Ensure proper distribution of water trucking and jerry cans to the beneficiaries;

  • Preparation of end of month narrative progress reports for activities undertaken, following months work plan , Cash projections weekly updates and availing same to immediate supervisors within the agreed deadline;

  • Actively participate in by involving stake holders and partners in evaluation of past project and document Impact, Sustainability and best practices for WASH projects in the area for learning and sharing with your supervisors, for future replication;

  • Facilitate WASH Trainings ,hygiene promotion and campaigns activities for the community members , school teachers and students to discuss water and sanitation hygiene issues;

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Educational level required: Degree in any of the following - Public Health Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Hydro Geology, Building Construction or Community Development.

  • Technical Training qualifications required: Skills in Community Total Lead Sanitation (CLTS) and/ or Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Methodology (PHAST) tools.

  • Experience: 2 years of experience in in Project implementation preferably water and sanitation or/ health.

  • Proficiency in using computer software e. g MS office and internet.

  • Fluency in Somali language and English is needed.
