PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to lead the integration of faith into transformational development programming in the nine field offices (FOs) of the World Vision Southern Africa Region (SAR) The Faith and Transformational Development (F&TD) Lead will provide focused leadership and guidance to ensure sustained outcomes and lasting transformation by harnessing WV’s Christian identity and faith based ministry approaches to address the spiritual root causes of child vulnerability. Working with SAR Field Offices and WV Global Centre teams, the F&TD Lead will provide technical guidance and thought leadership on integrating, measuring and scaling up of WV’s Christian, faith-based approaches and
adaptive programming that catalyze transformational change, integrating the foundations of WVs ministry sectors and themes for sustained, holistic child well-being.
This position has the responsibility of raising WV’s profile in the region as a thought leader on Transformational Development and Faith in Programming by making a significant contribution to external dialogue and engagement on holistic development, development effectiveness and adaptive management. The Faith and Transformational Development Lead will also provide technical leadership to World Vision’s work in the region on the ministry of Faith and Transformational Development (TD) in Programming through expanding and deepening our partnerships with churches and faith leaders for sustained child well-being.
Working with FO leadership including Field Office National Directors, this position will empower and equip leaders and staff to work toward life in all its fullness for all children, especially the most vulnerable, and equipping staff and leaders to speak confidently about how WV’s Christian faith strengthens our ministry effectiveness.
The F&TD Lead will provide overall technical leadership, guidance in the implementation, coordination, monitoring, reporting evaluation and learning on Faith and Transformational Development programming. This position will also co-lead with the Regional MEAL and Field Office Program Quality teams WV’s Faith and Transformational Development evidence building efforts ensuring relevant data generated by WV programs are analyzed and used effectively at all levels to demonstrate WV impact of Faith and Transformational development in the well-being of children.
Integration of WV’s Christian programming models across the spectrum of programmes (sponsorship, PSF, grants etc.)
Strategic leadership and guidance towards integrating and demonstrating the impact of WV’s faith-based approaches on sustained improvements in child well-being.
Ensure programme reporting routinely and consistently captures the contribution of WV’s faith-based approaches to child well-being.
Continue growing and leveraging the credible evidence base for WV’s faith-based approaches and project models for greater impact, influence and income.
Support field office capacity building efforts related to strengthening faith based models and approaches in collaboration with the Technical Service Organisation and other World Vision International entities.
Equip staff and leaders to speak confidently about how our Christian faith strengthens our ministry effectiveness.
Expand and deepen quality partnerships with churches and faith actors for sustained child well-being
In partnership with Regional Office Communications, Advocacy and External Engagement teams, position WV as a thought leader on Faith and Transformational Development by facilitating external dialogues on holistic development, development effectiveness and adaptive management with strategic partners.
Expand, deepen and nurture WV SAR strategic partnerships with churches and faith leaders for sustained child well-being, influence, impact and income.
Lead learning and knowledge management for partnering across SAR including external engagement and co-facilitating of high-level partnering training targeting faith and transformational development actors.
Support field offices to train and engage faith leaders in integrating faith in programming, faith based models and approaches in collaboration with the TSO.
Ensure the church is fully participating and active in the spiritual nurture of children and all other programming activities at all levels of the organization.
Support field offices to prepare and preposition faith leaders to respond to any form of emergency or child well-being crises.
Represent and speak for WV SAR in church related forums to discuss issues related to faith and transformational development.
Excellence in Transformational Development to increase sustainability in child wellbeing
Provide technical guidance, tools and resources to World Visions SAR work on the Mission-mandated ministry of Transformational Development (TD).
Lead the continued improvement of TD standards and practice across SAR FOs including grant funded and fragile context.
Provide guidance for inclusion of WVs TD and sustainability practices into design and implementation of all programmes, including the use of indicators and tools to measure progress towards sustainability.
Provide regional annual analysis of programme data showing faith and transformational development practices into the design and implementation of all programmes.
Develop and lead a coherent capacity building framework and implementation plan for Transformational Development in FOs.
Support FOs to develop quality Community Engagement and Child Sponsorship Technical Programs that places transformational development at the center of programming.
WV’s holistic approach to human transformation
Work with Field Office Senior Leadership teams including National Directors to ensure broad knowledge and understanding of available guidance on World Vision International tools, policies, processes and procedures related to WV’s Mission, Vision, Core Values and Christian identity:
Ensure Christian faith is embedded within Regional Office and Field Office capacity building, staff management and career development plans.
Contextualise or develop and roll out spiritual nurture materials for SAR staff and provide staff spiritual well-being support in partnership with the People and Culture team.
Empower and equip staff and leaders to speak confidently about how our Christian faith strengthens our ministry effectiveness.
Knowledge Management, Learning, Research and Program Quality
Promote learning and innovation in WV SAR Faith and Transformational Development processes and strengthen utilization of knowledge assets to harness our Christian identity for better outcomes for children.
Work with the Regional Senior MEAL and Impact Manager lead applied research approaches in alignment with the Southern Africa Regional Office evidence agenda and position WV SAR as an evidence based and impact led organization.
Establish regional learning networks for Faith and Transformational Development in Programming, promoting and sharing good practice and supporting innovation.
Actively maintain a rigorous understanding of the trends and global work in Faith and Transformational Development.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The incumbent will bring to this role a combination of Faith in Programming, Transformational Development, Program Quality and Impact Reporting experience. Specific requirements include:
Advanced/graduate degree with an additional post-graduate in a relevant field such as International Development, Community Development, Theology or a related discipline.
Ability to think broadly and deeply at both strategic and operational levels to inform strategy choices, management processes and decision making.
Consistently demonstrates high-level influence and strategic engagement skills and tactical savvy in delivery of technical assistance.
Knowledge of the World Vision Transformational Development approach, WV project models and operational framework.
Demonstrated expertise in partnerships especially church or faith partnerships in cross cultural environments.
Comfortable and confident working in a culturally diverse and inclusive team environment.
A proven record of successful collaboration with leaders in a cross cultural, international setting.
Proven ability to collaborate with all levels of staff and to motivate and mobilize individuals outside their reporting line to achieve agreed strategic plans.
Excellent skills in program design, documentation, and monitoring and evaluation.
Excellent technical/impact report writing skills.
Knowledge and understanding of the southern Africa church and inter-faith landscape.
Appreciation of the Global Church, mission and the history of Christianity in Africa.
Experience in interfaith engagement and supporting social inclusion will be an added advantage.
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft products including Excel and Outlook.
Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese, in addition to English, will be a significant advantage.
5+ years working on holistic, Christian development.
5+ years living and working in diverse international contexts.
5+ years of practical field experience in Faith and Transformational Development.
Demonstrated ability to report, present, communicate and influence, written and verbal in modern standard, grammatically correct English.
The position requires ability and willingness to travel regionally within the southern Africa region (Angola, Eswatini, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe) and internationally up to 40% of the time.
