The Water Operator will supervise the installation and maintenance of emergency surface water water treatment systems and help facilitate in formation and training of water committee with a view of improving accessibility to safe and sustainable water, and enhancing hygiene and sanitation practices in the project area. This will form an integral part of the implementation of WASH activities in the DFATD funded Life Saving Emergency Response for Underserved Counties in Upper Nile. The DFATD Project is an integrated project multi-sectorial project with Nutrition and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) services. This project targets IDPS and Vulnerable hosts in Wau Shilluk of Malakal County, and any other approved areas of Upper Nile States.
Assists in the day to day on site supervision of contractors installing water supply infrastructure and any other related WASH infrastructure.
Conducts daily operation and maintenance of water supply systems, ensuring a constant and consistent supply of treated water to beneficiary communities.
Conducts daily water quality monitoring of water being supplied to communities by checking for turbidity and FRC levels and ensuring they are as per the minimum standards.
Maintains a good record of water production and use of water treatment consumables (reagents and diesel).
Ensure timely request for water scheme consumables to the hygiene coordinator or WASH Officer.
Develops and maintains a schedule for the servicing/maintenance of water supply systems.
Ensures a perfect distribution system void of leakages.
Keep constant surveillance of water treatment process and records.
Liaise with local authorities on the day today running of the water scheme.
Ensure timely submission of water treatment, operation and maintenance reports biweekly and monthly.
Ensure that good care (good hygiene standards) are maintained in the water points.
Key Qualifications and Competencies
A certificate in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Water Supply) or any other related field from a reputable tertiary institution. A college level diploma will be an added advantage.
A minimum 2 years post qualification experience in the operation and maintenance of community level water supply systems preferably within an INGO setup.
Good computer skills, particularly in MS Word, MS Excel.
Commitment to World Vision Core values and mission statement.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Oral and written Arabic and knowledge of local language will be added advantages.
Experience working in emergencies, under difficult circumstances in remote locations with minimum supervision.
