Specialist Media and Public Engagement
Location – Colombo with travel
As the senior media representative, the incumbent will create new opportunities for the public to engage with World Vision Lanka, and also for WVL to influence public opinion on development issues. This will be done by building reputation and relationships with local and international print, electronic and web based media based in Sri Lanka. Additionally, the incumbent will support the Communications Manager in the sphere of optimizing the online and social media environment for the public, to interact with World Vision Lanka. He or she will also represent the Company in the Public Engagement Sphere as and when required.
Major Responsibilities of the position
Lead the development of the Public engagement Strategy, taking into account the overall Media /Communications Strategy.
Design and review media campaign strategy and action plan to be implemented with WV Lanka’s campaign to End Violence Against Children
Build mass media and external relationships and enhance collaborative working relationships within the press and publicity community
Prepare articles and press releases for the media.
Analyze and monitor daily News. (print, web and electronic media)
Manage and host local and international media as well as key stakeholder visits.
Assist with marketing events and campaigns.
Manage media crisis and handle emergency media and communications
Required qualifications, experience & competencies
Degree in Communications, Media, or Journalism, marketing or relevant field.
Diploma and 5-8 years’ Experience in the field of media/journalism
3-5 Years’ experience in relevant field; journalism, media, communications or development.. Degree in journalism or communications/public relations/marketing;
Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English and Sinhala /Tamil
Story writing, photography and videography skills, including video editing skills;
Fluency in computer programs (Word, Excel, Power Point);
Solid knowledge in media relations, understanding of mass media developments in the country;
Excellent press release, media advisory, spokesperson skills.
Capacity to translate and interpret
