Accounts Assistant – (Adverse South West Monsoon Response)

Location: To be based in Ratnapura, Kalutara & Galle with extensive travel

Period: July to October 2017

Job Profile

World Vision Lanka (WVL) together with its Project partners UNICEF, OFDA (USAID) & IOM is seeking to recruit qualified individuals for its Adverse South West Monsoon Response project. The project aims to assist communities affected by the landslides and floods to support their recovery efforts, specifically through rehabilitation of essential WASH infrastructure. In addition the project will carry out hygiene related interventions to compliment and prevent spread of disease among the affected communities.

The Accounts Assistant will perform a variety of regular and recurring accounting functions, including establishing accounting records and maintaining the general books of accounts, assist in the procurement of goods and services as required while ensuring adherence to world vision policies and government regulations. In addition he/she will also:

  • Assist the Field Accountant to carryout day to day finance activities to ensure the smooth functioning of the Project operations

  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of vouchers

  • Assist the Field Accountant to prepare the financial reports, cover memo, advances & payable aging analysis, update the asset register, perform the bank reconciliation etc.,

  • Ensure fundamental finance policies and procedures are in place as per the instructions given by the Accountant.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Part qualification of AAT or similar qualification

  • At least one year of financial experience in a similar capacity

  • Experience in using Microsoft office, with good knowledge of MS Excel, Word & PowerPoint.

  • Good oral and written communication skills in English and Tamil
