Senior Legal Officer
Location: Based in Colombo with travel
To support, maintain and manage the provision of effective and efficient Legal support and services for the WVL National Office and its Field operations within the legal framework of Sri Lanka. The key functions he/she will be responsible for:
The compliance of contracts, including drafting reviewing of all legal and business documents and ensuring efficient contract management;
Performing an in-house legal advisory role for projects, programmes and HR matters.
Provide litigation support - Represent the organization and coordinate all litigation requirements with external counsel. Liaise with relevant external parties including government and private bodies as needed
To support and mitigate new challenges of the organisation through extensive research on latest developments. Knowledge management of the legal resources of the organization.
Guide. Supervise & monitor the legal officer & the WVL management & staff ensuring WVL operates well within the legal framework of the country and the partnership.
Education, Knowledge & Experience required for the position
Should be an Attorney – at – law & Notary Public preferably with a bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B) or equivalent.
Minimum 3-5 year experience in a similar capacity with exposure to drafting contracts, MOU’s, legal agreements preferably in a NGO environment.
In depth knowledge on Sri Lankan Labour law with experience in handling labor tribunal matters and staff disciplinary matters.
Excellent communication skills in English and a local language ( both reading and writing) is essential.
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, computer programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and use of internet and email.
Should posses the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
