Senior Manager Partnerships

Location: To be based in Colombo with travel

Job Profile

The position will support the line management to ensure that the local fundraising process through corporate partnerships is well managed, contributing to a culture of performance and accountability for results, increasing the resource base and diversified strategic engagement with multiple partners.

The position will work to build the capacities of the Partnership department and other internal partners for better networking, building private partnership capacities, evidence based research, enhancing dialogue with partners for increased funding opportunities, orienting and positioning partners and other departments for coalitions and consortia engagements and developing partnership management capacity (compliance, timeliness and accuracy of reporting, grants tracking to reduce organizational liabilities, etc.). Also will identify, pursue and negotiate financial, non-financial and risk-sharing partnerships with a range of partners (companies, government agencies, other non-governmental organizations and high net worth individuals) in Sri Lanka to expand the reach and impact.

The position will monitor and will be responsible for progress of partnerships and resourcing ability by developing, implementing and evaluating partners and partnership engagement plans, partners communication strategies, set up fundraising targets, develop KPIs in partnership management and overview proposal development and contract management processes.

Key Objectives of the Position

Strategic Leadership in driving Partnership Unit forward

  • Integrating private companies to WVL’s core business model by entering in to partnerships with WVL

  • Develop reciprocal values by suggesting activities and projects which are compatible with core business area and thereby enhancing the corporate brand equity of organization

  • Facilitate private sector to shift from the traditional approach to a transformational paradigm which attributes towards sustainable development, constant involvement, strategic planning, monitoring and consistent commitment towards the communities.

  • Partnership Mapping and updating partner interests/ vision aligned to WVL proprieties

Business process management of Partnering agreements

  • Prepare the business plan and annual budget for Partnership in line with NO strategies and guidelines.

  • In guidance of GD, set the overall strategy and direction for corporate Partnerships that meet the overall objectives and vision of WVL

  • Assess, evaluate and recommend various programs and/or institutions for possible partnership.

  • Advice the department, sectors leads and operations on potential partnerships with institutions while ensuring integration with the overall strategy of WVL.

  • Maintain the risk mitigation plans and timely actions to adapt the circumstances accordingly

  • Handle all communications with potential entities and act as main focal point for any queries.

  • Oversee the entire project life cycle of all partnerships from identifying partners to the overall setup and operation under WVL.

  • Coordinate with legal regarding the contract negotiations with partners to ensure that WVL’s interests are being met.

  • Lead the due diligence, financial analysis and business planning for emerging and existing corporate partnership.

Networking and Coordination

  • Develop and establish good relationships with potential corporates and private partners.

  • Initiate and maintain regular contact with other international non-governmental organizations and government officials in an effort to obtain experience and coordinate information regarding current and future works in the country.

  • Attend and make presentation on behalf of WVL to all key partner meetings

  • Work with communication department to develop and disseminate WV products (NO success stories, innovations, operational research outcomes, strategic or frameworks and etc. to the partners.

  • Identify, share / facilitate access to capacity building resources and appropriate materials, learning and support opportunities within the operations team. These may include active involvement in training, engagement of trainers, establishing institutional links, identifying opportunities for staff exchange or mentoring.

Partner Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Expand and enhance WVL systems and processes for monitoring and evaluation of partnership projects/ plans and its impact.

  • Monitor and continue to refine partners' reporting system to WVL, including measuring the impact of the partner programs and WVL support.

  • Contribute to the reporting and communication of impact and results to WVL investing

Partner Liaison

  • Serve as primary liaison along with other departments like public engagement, technical sectors in order to lead current and future partner organizations.

  • Maintain relationships with current partners and help in lead the development of a new partnership with stakeholders (individuals, cooperate and government agencies).

  • Coordinate with partners for any information needed including for marketing, grant making, contract /MoUs, operational plans and partnership trips etc.

  • Liaise with technical teams to leverage their support in the development process of new initiatives and approaches for partnering

Management

  • Provide matrix management support to GD.

  • Deliver regular updates and reports on partnership strategy and plans.

  • Participate in sustaining core values of the organization.

  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor

Compliance, Accountability & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure optimum contribution from the partnership proposals/ designs towards CWBO.

  • Maintain a transparent, nimble, and appropriate management information system with support of PMIS/Horizon

  • Ensure key management staff are aware of key milestones and meet contractual requirements.

  • Coach team in decision making relating to partnering opportunities.

Key Job/Functional Competencies required

Education

  • Master in business, economics, development , nonprofit management or other applicable field; MBA, MPA, MPP or other graduate education preferred

  • Have 5+ years working in portfolio management and relationship management to develop business.

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).

  • Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills and detail orientation.

  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office and Lotus Notes.

  • Demonstrate the ability to think and plan strategically, speak articulately, and work well with other competent and experienced professionals in a variety of fields.

  • Be very flexible, a self-starter, a team player, willing to manage a variety of tasks.

  • Demonstrate excellent time management, project management, interpersonal and writing skillsAble to objectively and sensitively work with the ADP team members

Experience

  • Demonstrable prior successes in grant submissions/tendering

  • Experience working with government/institutional partners potentially gained through a consulting company, international/community development organisation, or government agency

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities

  • High level of written and verbal communication/presentation skills in English.

  • Ability to prepare high quality project and program design documents, consultancy terms of reference, bid submissions/tender responses, and project reporting

  • Self-managed, with ability to maintain focus and achieve outcomes under pressure

  • Contract management and compliance

  • Stakeholder management and relationship building and networking.

  • Strong financial awareness, with the ability to build and interpret complex budgets and financial reporting

  • Understanding of program design process, and monitoring/evaluation frameworks
