Field Officer

Job Description

Purpose of the position:

To effectively manage activities within the Farmer Groups Economic Strengthening project, ensuring that intended results are achieved. This includes liaison with different stakeholders with WVS, the Government, and communities. Also the position will motivate, inspire and coordinate beneficiaries and stakeholders to accomplish set objectives within the confines of the donor requirements and WVS policies.

Work with farmers through Extension officers and other partners to effectively and duly implement project activities

To ensure cross cutting sectors are included during project implementation activity

Monitor implementation of all project activities and ensure it is according to plan and communicate changes to all relevant stakeholders

Using the appropriate monitoring tools, prepare and consolidate project reports for timely submission to relevant stakeholders.

Keep inventory of all project resources and also ensure farmers keep proper records for their businesses Carry out quality assessments and provide technical support for all income generation activities and Savings groups.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the job training:

1. First degree in Agriculture or related qualification

2. Previous work experience in implementing food security projects in rural households

3. Good community mobilization skills

4. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate negotiations with various stakeholders

5. Knowledge of local value chains and buyers of different products

6. Knowledge of community based disaster risk reduction and preparation of disaster preparedness plans

7. Good report writing skills

8. Good presentation skills Bachelor in Community Development or Agribusiness

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field

  • Travel: The job will involve occasional domestic travel and could also involve international travel but this will be uncommon.

  • On call: Job doesnt involve call but may require working after hours.
