Protection Officer

Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

World Vision is seeking to hire a Protection Officer to supervise and support its protection, child protection and GBV response activities in Syria. Supervised by protection coordinator, the Protection Officer will contribute to ensuring the technical quality and advice on the implementation and coordination of WV’s Child Protection programs including: planning, documentation, monitoring, evaluation, research, and capacity building.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Major Activities

  • Submit weekly and monthly reports and assist the program officers in drafting donor quarterly/annual reports

  • Take the lead in conducting assessments in Syria for selection of new locations and development of new activities

  • Conduct quarterly safety audits in the camps and assist manager in presenting the results for other sectors and following up on action points

  • Support the Protection Coordinator in GBV regular case reviews with Psychosocial workers

  • Organize and provide trainings to service providers, women center volunteers and camp focal points on GBV guiding principles and referrals

  • Provide regular support to women centers site supervisors

  • Work to establish and/or reinforce referral pathways with other sectors/services

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:

  • Understanding of emergency response and two years of relevant professional experience, including experience in gender, GBV or protection programming

  • Proven experience in developing and delivering training and of group facilitation

  • Extremely strong communication skills, with good understanding of relevant cross-cultural and sensitive issues

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to protection issues, including application of the principle of confidentiality

  • Ability to work well with a team

  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative reporting skills

  • Strong problem-solving and innovation to address gaps and challenges

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to produce timely and high quality of work

  • Demonstrated high level of flexibility, responsiveness, and reliability

  • Ability to work under pressure and strong time management skills to meet both short-term and long-term objectives

  • Strict adherence to humanitarian and Protection principles and standards, as well as organizational policies

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Educational background in Social Science, International Relations, Law, Social Work/ Psychology, or other related field

  • Arabic native speaker, English fluency is essential spoken and written.
