Audit Assistant


Position: Audit Assistant

Report to: Audit Manager

Location: Kampala, National Office

Purpose of the position:

The primary purpose of the position is to provide an independent objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve the organisation’s operation by using a systematic disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes as required by WVI Global Audit and Evaluation Standards and International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. The audit function assists the Audit Manager in review and audit of projects and programs to ensure the promotion of good stewardship of resources consistent with the purposes for which the funds were given.

Major Responsibilities

  • Support conducting audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls, accuracy of financial records, and efficiency of organizational operations using professional audit standards and practices;

  • Support the preparation of audit reports using good written skills in accordance with International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing;

  • Conduct any special reviews/investigations as directed by the Audit Manager;

  • Support compliance reviews of organization records to ensure compliance with Government statutory requirements as directed to including but not limited to taxation laws, employment law and any other applicable local requirements.

  • Support reviews of records pertaining to fixed and movable assets to determine degree to which they are effectively, efficiently and economically utilized as per WVI Field Financial Manual;

  • Ensure that all audit documentation is discussed and approved by the Audit Manager before any onward discussion or transmission beyond the Audit Department as required by WVI Partnership Audit and Evaluation Standards and International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing;

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • First degree in Commerce, Accounting or Business

  • Professional certification in Accounting or Auditing

  • Good communication skills

  • Good working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, use of micro soft office

  • Sun System accounting software proficiency

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA)
