VisionFund International Marketing Manager

Job Description

*Position location: UK where VisionFund is registered to operate.

ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND:

VisionFund International (VFI) is the world’s largest Christian microfinance network. For more than a decade we have been improving the lives of children across the developing world, as we provide small loans and other financial services to families struggling in poverty.

As the microfinance subsidiary of World Vision, the world’s largest Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation, we work in 30+ countries through our network of affiliated microfinance institutions (MFIs) located across the globe in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. We have an outstanding loan portfolio of nearly US$ 535 million, serve over 1.2 million active borrowers and impact the lives of over 4 million children each year.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, executing and maintaining VisionFund’s marketing provision to support organisational objectives, through marketing planning, brand development, including the look and feel of our materials, and analysis.

This position ensures the brand is optimized externally, both through website traction and experience and a social media strategy that drives awareness of the VisionFund brand. This role supports key fundraising projects dependent on marketing support, including Micro which is our mass market product for consumer marketing, soon launching in new markets.

In addition, this role will drive the development and distribution of marketing resources and collateral creation, and will be the in-house expert on design. The position will develop the marketing plan and lead the team in recommending initiatives to complement the organisation’s global strategy and objectives, and see them through planning, budgeting and delivery.

This is both a team leadership role with strategic planning and a hands-on implementation role. This role will be the expert adviser on marketing, guiding brand work and design. This role will have staff line management responsibility and/or freelancers to manage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the VisionFund marketing plan to support the organization in reaching its goals.

  • With feedback and insights from key partners, evaluate key marketing needs to support all areas at VisionFund International Global Centre.

  • Taking on the results of the evaluation, develop a marketing plan that outlines timeframes, priorities and needs made clear through the evaluation.

  • Use the marketing plan to lead and direct the implementation of set out priorities in the plan. This includes people management, directing key initiatives, resourcing individuals and providing leadership insights to ensure the successful completion of set out objectives.

  • Evaluate the level of success and achieve continuous improvement.

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of key marketing collateral, online presence and social media efforts for VisionFund, through team and through own hands-on work.

  • VisionFund needs constant development and attention to key marketing collateral, to ensure the achievement of organisational objectives.

  • Monitor and improve the Global Brand and design of VisionFund, ensuring consistency both at Global Centre and field level.

  • Consistent branding and design need to be developed, communicated, and adhered to by the VisionFund network. This role has sole responsibility for this.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing/design.

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in marketing (or other relevant subject) or equivalent level of qualification.

  • A track record in effectively developing and directing marketing initiatives and analysis efforts.

  • Experience in brand development and collateral development including design and production – Photoshop, InDesign, filming, video editing, design software.

  • A willingness to travel to remote rural locations in developing countries where we operate.

  • Ability to work collaboratively, and communicate and influence effectively, in a global team of professionals.

  • An ability to represent accurately and sensitively, in a culturally appropriate way, the brand and the organisation’s Christian identity.

  • A proven track record of writing copy for marketing materials.

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English.

Preferred:

  • Experience of getting results through digital marketing, ideally in a fundraising environment.

  • Understanding and awareness of cross-cultural communications.

  • Knowledge of development issues.

Work Environment:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel internationally up to 10% of the time.

This role is in a dynamic global team of marketing and communications professionals working in geographically dispersed locations.

Ideally, the position would be based in the central London office at least 50% of the time although there is some flexibility to consider other locations depending on the ability of VFI to hire staff in the candidate’s home country.
