Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Based: London (with regular travel to Milton Keynes Head Office)

We’re looking for someone with the experience, creativity and drive to take our media operation to a new level. Someone who can help set an agenda, lead debate and deliver tangible outcomes.

World Vision helps millions of vulnerable children across the world. Tens of thousands of people in the UK support our work.

As a media officer, you’ll achieve cut-through on news stories. You’ll pitch thought-provoking comment on global development issues. You’ll place features that engage our audiences - millenials, parents, and an older, affluent generation.

You’ll find yourself working with major news outlets like the BBC and Al Jazeera. World Vision is a Christian charity and also works closely with Christian and development media.

Youll need to be on the ball, keeping abreast of the news agenda,spotting opportunities and reacting quickly. Youll need a good eye for a story, developing news releases and feature pitches from our work overseas. Youll need the intelligence to construct a compelling blog. Youll need to be able to build relationships with journalists and take them out to report on our projects overseas. Above all, youll need superb writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work as part of a news team to draft spokesperson comment - issuing tweets and statements in reaction to the daily news agenda and responding to journalist enquiries.

  2. Prepare and brief staff for media interviews with key messages, sound-bites and answers to questions.

  3. Draft, edit and write comment blogs and opinion pieces for WVUK spokespeople on issues affecting the worlds most vulnerable children.

  4. Liaise with World Visions communications staff around the world on media stories and initiatives including during humanitarian emergencies.

  5. Build strong relationships with journalists, third-party endorsers and other external influencers in order to build World Vision UKs profile in specific media sectors.

  6. Source childrens stories from our field programmes and generate angles, releases, photographs, video interviews, blogs and other assets for media and social media use.

  7. Plan, develop, pitch and deliver child-based news and feature stories through warm contacts to key national print, broadcast and online media to reach target audiences.

  8. Set up, facilitate and manage media trips overseas, in collaboration with communications staff from WV national offices around the world.

  9. Create media plans for integrated campaigns in support of World Vision UKs strategic imperatives.

  10. Monitor WVUK media profile, maintaining positive reputation at all times and responding to reputational issues as instructed.

  11. Compile daily staff news briefings on rota basis.

  1. Act as WVUK media spokesperson, where appropriate.
