Partnership Leader – Global Communications & Public Engagement

Job Description

*Preferred location: Stockley Park, United Kingdom. Position location to be within a jurisdiction (Country or US State) where WVI is registered to operate.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary goal of the Partnership Leader – Global Communications and Public Engagement, is to drive excellence for the organisation in communications operations, assuring end to end strategy alignment and that communications teams are oriented towards the highest value add communications work.

This role is accountable for building and socializing common metrics to assess and promote the function’s performance and contribution to strategy, and fostering a stronger, smarter network that leverages cross-entity strengths and assets.

The role will drive new ways of working that allow us to measure and learn the most effective ways of investing network-wide communications resources for maximum return.

The role has four (4) distinct sets of goals:

  • Content management and leadership for all aspects of World Vision’s work (i.e. internal, donor, reporting, etc)

  • Public Engagement and Public Affairs

  • Internal and Corporate Communications

  • Operational Execution and Learning

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:

  • Through direct leadership and influence achieve the purpose of role above.

  • Maintains and actively promotes a Global Communications operational plan that is aligned to Our Promise 2030.

  • Provides direct matrix leadership to the 7 GFO regions, VFI and the US, Canada and Australia Support Offices (SOs). Through the direct reports also provides support to other SOs.

  • Provides executive communications oversight as required to the Strategy Realisation Office supporting Our Promise 2030.

  • Works with Global Resource Development on the alignment of the WV Brand.

  • Promotes and actively leads the execution of Giving Work to Our Faith.

  • Develops Communications bench-strength and appropriate succession for the function.

  • Drive agility, effectiveness and results driven performance.

Global Content:

  • Leads the Global Content portfolio which provides the WV Partnership with the full scope of content needs (stories, photos, video) to tell our story for fundraising, retention and reporting, advocacy, reputation building, and brand awareness.

  • The content portfolio manages collaboration across all partnership entities to ensure stewardship, leveraging of existing high-performing content, testing innovations and providing visibility of content trips to the field with their resulting products.

  • Oversite of the Media & Social media, strategy and delivery for a wide range of stakeholders including employees, donors, media, bloggers, and influential members of the NGO community, the press, the community and the public.

Public Engagement and Public Affairs:

  • Lead the team which sets, guides and implements communications plans that exemplify best-practice examples of World Vision’s brand, leverage key global sectors, global moments, humanitarian crises and our policy positions, and help to build World Vision’s reputation among key target audiences.

This will be achieved through our global digital channels, work with national and regional office colleagues and building organisation-wide capacity to deliver on the goals above:

  • Maintain and build WVI’s reputation ensuring stakeholder confidence utilizing varying but integrated messages to reach different constituents.

  • Partner with GRD, Advocacy & External Engagement (A&EE), Faith & Development (F&D) and People &Culture (P&C) to build on trust and reputation sentiment research with key audiences (donors, stakeholders, faith actors and staff)

  • Partner with others in the organization to communicate with donors, analysts, customers and WVI Board members.

  • Provide advice and participation in decisions that may impact the ongoing, reputation of

  • WVI

  • Work with media outlets to publish timely company information, such as press releases, brochures, and other materials.

  • Resolve public affairs issues

Internal and Corporate Communications:

  • A key part of our communications strategy is supporting and advocating Our Promise 2030, through effective internal and corporate communications which is key to shifting the mindsets and behavior required for WV to achieve its deliverables.

  • Ensure effective and targeted (on message) communications plan for the Executive Leadership of WVI. As an organisation of over 42,000 staff working across 100 entities and countries, support key aspects of Staff and Organisational well-being (under the direction of P&C).

  • Create, market and deliver a targeted 24 month plan to build internal trust, unity and understanding across the different parts of the Partnership (P&C to provide direction).

Operations and Learning:

  • Lead the Operations and Learning team whose primary goal is to drive excellence for the organisation in communications operations, assuring end to end strategy alignment and that communications teams are oriented towards the highest value add communications work - fit for context, fit for impact.

  • This entails shepherding some 650 communicators across the organisation towards the global goal of strengthening reputation and trust (bolstering our corporate character), building and communicating common metrics to assess and promote the function’s performance and contribution to strategy, and fostering a stronger, smarter network that leverages cross-entity strengths and assets.

  • This effort is driving new ways of working that allow us to measure and learn the most effective ways of investing network-wide communications resources for maximum return.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required:

  • Minimum of BA level degree Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing with 10-15 years of communications, internal and public relations working with global organizations is mandatory.

  • Proven track record in knowledge, skill and ability to manage global communications professionals.

  • Understanding of internal and external communications, media relations, branding, messaging and shared communications services such as translations, graphic design, publications and web services.

  • Knowledge and/or experience of international humanitarian relief, development and advocacy work.

  • Capacity to act as a servant leader and follow the example of Jesus Christ; strong ecumenical Christian commitment to serve the poor and practice justice.

  • An open and participative leadership style who is a good listener, self-motivated/initiative, team player and flexible.

  • Successful at handling uncertainty and change working cross culturally.

  • Demonstrated ability in working effectively and influencing across the ‘C’ suite level of a global organisation.

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications, media relations and marketing program to advance the WVI’s mission & vision.

  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.

  • Experience in building, mentoring and coaching a team of communications specialists.

Work Environment:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time.
