Humanitarian M&E Officer (Start Fund)

Job Description

Humanitarian M&E Officer – Start Fund

Salary - £27000 per annum + good range of benefits

This is a full-time, fixed term contract until 31stMarch 2018 (with the possibility of renewal)

This role will primarily be based between World Vision’s Victoria office and Save the Children’s office in Farringdon, London, with some international travel for research purposes.

Combine data analysis and technical support to help improve crisis response

World Vision is the world’s largest international children’s charity. At World Vision, our aim is simple – to keep every child free from fear. We are also proud to be ranked 9thplace in the top 100 ‘Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For' in 2016.

The Start Fund is a rapid, NGO-managed, collective funding mechanism for humanitarian response. Operating within the Start Network, and representing its 42 members, the Start Fund responds to under-the-radar crises often overlooked or insufficiently attended by the humanitarian system. Competition between NGOs, inadequate and slow funding mechanisms and donor-driven, reactive responses inhibits the potential of the humanitarian system to meet the needs of affected populations. The Start Fund seeks to challenge that.

Critical to swift and informed decision-making is the provision of a strong and ever-improving body of evidence. The Start Fund M&E team, housed within Start Network Member World Vision UK’s London office (in Victoria), serves to analyse, inform and improve humanitarian response through exploring both qualitative and quantitative data gleaned from Start Fund responses. The Humanitarian M&E Officer role will provide critical analysis and visualisation of responses and ensure that data is managed and utilised to its full extent.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the use of the Salesforce database to enhance the ability to quickly and effectively analyse and visualise data

  • Develop light yet impactful models of learning to ensure lessons learned are fed back to improve ongoing programming

  • Facilitate virtual calls between project leads in the field to generate learning between Start members

  • Develop summary reports of Start Fund responses including overviews of the context, response and immediate outcomes

  • Manage field research visit logistics and administration

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the humanitarian sector and the use of inter-agency learning to enhance effectiveness. Critically, they will be:

  • Able to effectively analyse both qualitative and quantitative data

  • Experienced in data management: cleaning, analysis and visualisation, (experience with Salesforce, Tableau and Pivot tables would be an advantage)

  • Ideally educated to Masters level in social sciences, statistics or similar (or can demonstrate equivalent experience)

  • Able to thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment

  • Able to take initiative in identifying improvements to the Start Fund M&E system

  • Collaborative and team focused

All applicants must be willing to work within a Christian framework and be sensitive to its various expressions across cultures and denominations.

In addition to the salary offered, we offer good benefits including pension, subsidised gym membership, generous holiday entitlement, childcare vouchers and free parking.
