Fundraising Manager - Europe

ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position will be responsible for managing European Support Office (SO) major donor relationship development and regional fundraising strategy, including in the UK. In addition this role will provide day-to-day leadership on the strategic fundraising partner relationship with Opportunity International in UK and USA.

Through a combination of fundraising skills and economic empowerment knowledge, this role will drive major donor fundraising investment through key European SOs and will seek to maximize fundraising opportunities to support VisionFund's microfinance work and economic development.

This role will require the ability to influence at a senior level with a focus on building strong and lasting relationships both externally and internally, with key stakeholders and World Vision Support Offices.

Working as part of the VisionFund fundraising team, this role will manage relationships with our key prospects and donors in the UK, UK events, and all fundraising activities in the UK and across Europe.

Creative thinking to further develop the fundraising function in Europe will be required in order to succeed in the position as well as the ability to persevere in a sector and external environment where competition is high.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Microfinance fundraising and Support Offices relationship management:

  • UK major donor accounts management and microfinance fundraising (directly with donors and potential donors, and also indirectly via partners such as OIUK).

  • Oversight and management of collaborative fundraising partnerships with European Support Offices.

  • Continuous development of and delivery of a plan of high quality donor engagement and activity management in the UK and Europe.

  • OIUK partnership management and fundraising; directly advise on opportunities needing microfinance expertise.

  • OIUS global partnership management, implementation oversight and problem solving.

  • Lead fundraising oversight, guidance, input into Women’s Empowerment Fund reporting process.

Direct and indirect donor engagement involves:

  • To seek, target and prospect major donors (particularly in partnership with OIUK).

  • To develop effective and influential relationships with potential and existing major donors through face-to-face meetings, written communication, telephone communication, and special events.

  • Present the needs of the people VisionFund serves in a compelling and appropriate manner to donors directly (or more often through OIUK).

  • Update major donors with comprehensive and timely reports, according to development plans, of the work that they have funded.

  • Appropriately engage donors with evidence of impact, articles, information and media about VisionFund/World Vision and development work that will inspire them.

  • Meet activity targets and follow prescribed internal processes to deliver income targets.

  • When required, travel with donors on Vision Trips to the field.

  • Create individual donor development plans using specific and clearly thought out steps (touch points) to engage donors, receive financial gifts, grow the relationship and transform their experience with VisionFund.

  • To equip major donors with the relevant ‘tools’ to be ambassadors for VisionFund.

  • To promote VisionFund’s profile at strategically significant philanthropic conferences or forums in person and by fielding appropriate VisionFund colleagues.

  • Working closely with WV Support Offices to identify existing donors with capacity and inclination to become major donors by comprehensive research, deliberate donor correspondence and face to face meetings court and qualify these potential donors for the Major Donor Programme.

  • Lead fundraising oversight, guidance, input onto online mass marketing offerings in the US and other markets (eg. EE pledge product, post Micro product design).

Fundraising department planning and reporting management:

  • Provide leadership and capacity building to the Fundraising Coordinator for departmental activity and financial analysis.

  • Manage quarterly CEO reporting process (supported by FR coordinator).

  • Support the Global Fundraising Director with departmental budgeting and forecasting.

  • Line management of FR coordinator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Fundraising/development/sales knowledge and experience.

  • Strong project management, change management and influencing skills.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication - ability to touch peoples' hearts for the poor in written and verbal communications.

  • Ability to translate a strategy into a workplan and to decide on scheduling, taking into account interdependencies and workload.

  • Strategic thinking ability at degree level required, demonstrated through study or through work experience.

  • Knowledge of fundraising theories and methodologies (in particular major donor fundraising) and an ability to apply those in day to day interactions and materials. This could have been gained through a qualification from the Institute of Fundraising or CFRE or through work experience in a fundraising Key Relationship Manager type of role.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the market within the UK or European market.

  • Excellent computer skills - Word, Excel, Powerpoint, databases, web maintenance, and scheduling.

  • Financially numerate with experience managing budgets, reporting (e.g. scorecards) and financial analysis.

  • Ability to establish a positive rapport and influence with key stakeholders internally and externally – donors and colleagues.

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
