PURPOSE OF POSITION:

In support of GFO’s plans to realize OP2030 specifically Strategic Imperative 5, the position provides strategic leadership resulting in strategic collaboration and partnership with churches at local, national and regional levels, ensuring meaningful and productive involvement of churches and faith actors for the holistic well-being of children. The position also provides leadership and guidance in our engagement and collaboration with other faith groups including other faith based organizations.

The position will provide advice and technical know-how for field teams across ministries and contexts to see and empower the church and faith based organizations to fulfill their role towards the well-being of children. Leads the review, adaptation, and contextualization of already existing resources and tools and development of new resources (as maybe appropriate) to respond to emerging needs and contexts.

The position provides thought leadership and action in all church and interfaith related global and management policies, guidance, protocols and standards. This also includes ensuring faith integration, particularly partnering with churches and other faith groups in strategy/programming processes (landscape analysis, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation) across all contexts.

The position helps offices to mobiles churches/FBOs for SNC and ensures that according to WV policy all programs across contexts and funding streams deliver holistic programming for CWB. Working closely with field offices (NOs, ROs), and as appropriate with relevant SO/GC units, provide guidance and thought leadership in building networks and alliances with churches and other faith groups to achieve child well-being targets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides strategic leadership resulting in deep collaboration and partnership with churches at various levels, ensuring meaningful and productive involvement of faith actors for the well-being of children.

Working with NOs, ROs, SOs and other relevant stakeholders:

  • Identify and build strategic relations with key local churches and Church Networks for children well being.

  • Support the operationalization of the Partnerships with Churches policy across the partnership including development and dissemination of orientation materials and guidance/framework for partnering.

  • Support the creation of platform and venue for collaboration for the well- being of children.

  • Support Local Church capacity building to support Child Protection and enhance children well being.

  • Identify, document, and disseminate good practice at all levels pertaining to church partnerships for CWB.

Provides leadership and guidance in our engagement and collaboration with other faith groups including other faith based organizations.

Working with NOs, ROs, SOs and other relevant stakeholders:

  • Support/continue the operationalization of the Interfaith policy across the partnership including development and dissemination of orientation materials and guidance/framework for partnering with other faith groups and institutions.

  • Develop capabilities, set strategic priorities and ensure accountability for partnerships with different faith actors as well as build capacity of the WV’s senior leadership for the application of WV’s

  • policies in other faith majority and mixed faith contexts.

  • Build capacity of WV partnership for interfaith engagement, while living out our identity with boldness and humility as it relates to staffing, program and policy application in other faith majority and mixed-faith contexts.

  • Support for Regional Leaders, National Directors and Senior Leadership Teams across the WV partnership to apply our Christian identity in other faith contexts.

Mobilizes and equips churches/FBOs for SNC across all programs as appropriate to the context/ministry.

Working with NOs, SOs, ROs, and relevant stakeholders:

  • Support the development and roll out of capacity building initiatives and learning materials for staff for holistic development of children with emphasis on SNC elements and contribution.

  • Support the development and roll out of capacity building initiatives and learning materials for churches and faith based organizations for holistic development of children with emphasis on SNC elements and contribution.

  • Support the tracking, reporting, and evidence building on SNC’s contribution to achieve CWB in organizational processes such as CWB Report, Horizon, Sponsorship Minimum Programming Standards and

  • RC Monitoring Standards.

  • Support the creation of platforms for collaboration of child focused church/faith networks.

  • Identify, document, and disseminate good practice on SNC in partnership with churches and faith based organizations.

Provides thought leadership and action in all church and interfaith related global and management policies, guidance, protocols and standards including faith integration in strategy, programming, and assessment as it relates to church partnerships and interfaith engagement.

Working with NOs, ROs, SOs, and other relevant stakeholders:

  • Identify and catalogue emerging best practices of integrated child wellbeing ministry programs with churches and in other faith majority and mixed faith contexts.

  • Collaborate with Evidence and Learning department to research and document evidence of Faith engagement with faith actors for enhanced outcomes on child wellbeing and sustainable development goals.

  • WV leadership and teams have clarity on how to maximize opportunities and mitigate risks in collaborating with people and organizations of other faith (staffing, grants, EE) so that impact on MVC is achieved.

Provides guidance and thoughtleadership in building networks and alliances with churches and other faith groups.

Working with NOs, SOs, ROs, and relevant stakeholders:

  • Initiate and develop functional relationships with prioritized global network of humanitarian, child-focused local Church ministry.

  • Built WV’s reputation for excellence in Christian-other faith relations in humanitarian, development and advocacy sectors.

  • Represent WV in international forums, conferences and engagement opportunities relating to Faith Engagement and collaboration.

  • Encourage and equip WV staff with regard to the local and global potential of church for community transformation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required:

  • Master degree in theology, religious studies, or other related fields.

  • At least 5-7 years’ working experience in diverse and other faith contexts working.

  • At least 5-7 years’ experience and demonstrated understanding of other faith communities, the complexity of working as Christian NGO within Faith contexts, relationship with the faith and development arena, major players, and joint work towards the sustainable development goals.

  • At least 5 years’ experience working within WV with demonstrated experience of field based applications of WV’s policies relating to interfaith engagement as it relates to staffing and programs.

  • Exemplary personal Christian commitment, vibrant spirituality, and Christ-centered life and work.

  • Deepen knowledge of the Church structure, denominations and history with from inside leadership

  • Experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in culturally and religiously diverse environments.

  • Deep understanding and extensive experience of Islamic contexts, especially in fragile contexts.

  • A team player with proven effectiveness working collaboratively with others and developing partnerships both internally and externally.

  • Clarity in conceptual thinking and communication including critical thinking skills and the ability to challenge the status quo.

  • Excellent communication skills in writing and producing clear, concise and appealing documents.

  • Strong computer literacy in the use of MS Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and the hosting of webinars and conference calls.

  • 5-7 years’ experience within the development/humanitarian industry.

  • 5-7 years’ experience within Church and or missions.

  • 5-7 years’ experience in working with faith leaders and other-faith organizations/networks in humanitarian/development work.

  • 5-7 years’ working experience in international, cross-cultural settings.

  • Proven experience working with and through networks.

  • Extensive experience creating solid, effective, and mutually beneficial relationships with faith leaders and across faith groups.

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English.

  • Fluency in Arabic or French an advantage, other languages helpful also.

Work Environment:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.
