Specialist, Prayer Resource & Initiative Development

Provides leadership in ensuring a culture of prayer and discernment within the organization by creating opportunities and prayer resources throughout the Partnership. Working closely with different offices and

units within the organization, this position provides expert advice and guidance on prayer and discernment related activities and resources.

Provides leadership for the mobilisation of committed, informed and strategically-focused prayer and discernment activities and initiatives by Partnership leaders, staff, Boards, community members where we work, and external engagement with other prayer networks towards the goal of fulfilling the Partnership’s mission and strategy and contributing to the holistic transformation of children, communities, nations and our world.

Ensures that prayer and discernment initiatives and resources are created with an eye towards inclusivity through embracing the diversity of Christian prayer traditions and in a sensitive manner so that they do not pose risks to staff and WV’s work in fragile or challenging contexts.


Prayer and Discernment Resource Development:

  • Develop, write, and coordinate the publication/dissemination of innovative, culturally-diverse prayer and discernment materials and resources for Partnership- wide use (including emergency prayer alerts) and relevant, appropriate external prayer and discernment initiatives.

  • Conceptualise, develop, disseminate and promote the monthly Partnership prayer guide.

This includes:

  • Identifying themes and Partnership sector foci.

  • Field prayer requests and editing requests for sensitive content.

  • Produce graphic/print layouts.

  • Approve final guide and ensure guide is

  • promoted/distributed via appropriate

  • internal Partnership communications.

  • Conceptualise, develop, and write a personalised monthly prayer guide for the WVI President/CEO.

Conceptualise, develop, write, publish, and promote the Partnership’s Annual Day of Prayer (DoP) materials.

This includes:

  • Lead the brainstorming to determine a theme that is then approved by Partnership Leadership.

  • Conceptualize, develop and publish all materials.

  • Ensure materials are promoted in appropriate Partnership Communications channels.

  • Report on Partnership DoP activities and sharing via appropriate Partnership Communications channels and ensuring these are incorporated into future materials development.

  • Guide the organization leads in the development of prayer and discernment competencies as well as in the development and use of prayer resources (creation, application and dissemination) in their initiatives. This would also include, where applicable, the development of prayer resources for children that are age- appropriate and contextually sensitive.

  • Guiding the development, writing and editing the content of drafted prayer and discernment materials by Global Center (GC) F&D sectors and other sectors.

  • Establish, lead and/or guide working groups/teams within GC F&D, other GC sectors and other Partnership entities focused on prayer and discernment and prayer mobilisation, supporting the documentation, dissemination and communication (through reporting) of practice and experiences.

  • Draft summary documents and reports of prayer events/initiatives.

  • Creating and coordinating Partnership prayer efforts and materials before, after, and during the Triennial Council for the WVI Board, delegates and children in attendance at the council, and the Partnership as it intercedes for the Triennial Council.

Prayer Partnership Development:

Build network relationship or partnerships with other Christian Faith Based Organizations, NGO’s and prayer networks for prayer mobilisation external to World Vision. Network building to be done in collaboration with:

  • F&D External Engagement

  • F&D Church Partnerships

  • GC Advocacy

  • Convene and lead a Partnership Prayer working group, consisting of leaders and staff across all WV entities, focused on advocating for prayer as part of personal and corporate part of Christian formation and spiritual nurture, on the sharing of learnings, promising practices and opportunities for joint collaboration in prayer.

  • Convene and lead an Intercessory Prayer Team, consisting of both internal and external prayer partners focused on praying on highly sensitive prayer requests both within and outside of the World Vision Partnership.

  • Advise WVI GC and GC F&D sectors on the production of all prayer and discernment materials externally outsourced. This includes providing advice on the formulation of the technical aspects of contracts with external consultants and overseeing the direction, production, sensitivity and Partnership branding requirements of prayer materials with external consultants.

  • Convene, lead and provide technical resources meetings either focused on prayer and discernment or in which prayer and discernment is of central focus.



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, with a preference for degrees in theology, practical ministry or communications.

  • Graduate degree in theology or ministry preferred.

  • Strong understanding and application of theology, missiology and diversity of church and faith traditions.

  • Advanced skills in adult learning styles and instructional and curriculum design.

  • Strong writing skills and proven ability to produce original documents, briefings, articles and document Summaries.

  • Advanced skills in MS Office, AF&Dess, SQL, and Sharepoint.

  • Recognised subject matter expert in prayer and diverse prayer traditions.

  • Extensive experience and a deep understanding and application of protocols surrounding WV communication, working across sectors, and working across all levels of the organisation.

  • Deeply devoted to his/her relationship in Christ through prayer, Bible study, and involvement in the local church.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong customer service skills and proven flexibility to work well with others with diverse personality styles.

  • 3-5 years of experience developing Christian formation resources with a large emphasis on prayer and diverse prayer traditions for large international audiences that are diverse in culture and church background.

  • 3-5 years combined project development and project management experience across multiple sectors, with multiple stakeholders, and at all levels of an organization.

  • 3-5 years of experience with graphic layout and design.

  • Strong ability to effectively and sensitively persuade, motivate and work together with stakeholders in intercultural settings and at all levels of an organization.

  • Deep understanding and application of WV’s core documents and Christian Commitments related

  • policies (Witness to Jesus Christ, Interfaith Relations, and Church Partnerships).

  • Strong ability to work in large organisations including a deep understanding and application of protocols.

  • surrounding communication, working across sectors, and working across levels of an organisation.

  • Proven ability to have a flexible, mature, and positive attitude and manage time well while supporting multiple projects with multiple deadlines.

  • Fluent in written, verbal, and narrative English Business Communication.

  • Proven ability to graciously and effectively communicate/motivate a variety of people at all levels of an

  • organisation, adapting communications according to culture and sensitivity of context.

  • Project management coursework completed.


  • Undergraduate/graduate degree in theology, missions, development, or related studies.

  • Project management certification.

  • Fluency in other languages preferred (French or Spanish).

  • 3-5 years of experience working with World Vision Christian Commitments at a regional or global level.

Work Environment:

  • This position will travel up to 10% of the work time per year.

  • The nature of this role frequently requires incumbent to have the ability and flexibility to attend virtual meetings in different time zones.
