PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Accountable to ensure the effective use and safeguarding of World Vision US (WVUS) resources and assets, overseeing all accounting-related functions, reporting financial results (monthly, annually, Form 990) that comply with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), Board policy, and/or regulatory requirements. In doing so, responsible for the accounting operations of the organization, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records and ensuring a robust set of internal controls over financial reporting to mitigate risk. Help carry out our Christian organization's mission, vision, and strategies. Personify the ministry of World Vision by witnessing to Christ and ministering to others through life, deed, word and sign.
Keep Christ central in our individual and corporate lives. Attend and participate in the leadership of devotions, weekly Chapel services, and regular prayer.
Direct all accounting operations for World Vision US including general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, gift-in-kind accounting, donation processing, financial reporting, and the external audit.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, employee expense reports, cash control, payroll processing, and payroll tax compliance.
Ensure that financial decisions, policies and procedures meet corporate objectives and comply with legal, regulatory, and contractual (including grant) requirements.
Provide critical and routine financial information to enhance decision-making and facilitate oversight by management, WVUS Board of Directors, and donors, as applicable.
Prepare audited financial statements and regulatory reporting, as required.
Establish and maintain effective systems and processes to: ◦Accurately account for contributions, commitments, acquisition of assets, and disbursements of obligations.
Provide timely and accurate financial reporting.
Ensure internal controls are established, monitored and enforced to protect WVUS assets.
Educate, train, and support clients in various areas of the organization on the interpretation and effective use of financial systems and principles.
Hire, terminate, train, counsel, and recommend salary increases, development assignments, and promotions for employees within assigned areas of responsibility.
Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to all employees in assigned areas of responsibility.
Perform other duties as required.
Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as part of a team.
Keep informed of organizational announcements, activities and changes via regular reading of the WVUS Intranet and other corporate communication tools.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
Master's degree or professional designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
Work experience in accounting, financial reporting, computer systems and financial management;
10 years. Supervisory experience required.
Work experience in a public accounting firm, as well as in a nonprofit organization highly desired.
Second language a plus.
Standard office environment. Domestic and international travel required (up to 25% of the time).
