Marketing Strategy Director

Job Description

*Preferred locations: USA or Canada. Position to be located within a jurisdiction (country or US state) where WVI is registered to operate.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To fulfil World Vision’s new global strategy - Our Promise 2030 - this high profile role will lead a the development of new funding sources for long term community development – with a goal of growing pledge revenue to $340M by 2030.

Specficially, the Marketing Strategy Director will lead a team that is accountable to develop, innovate and build high potential marketing strategies to meet the funding needs of our community development programmes (non-sponsorship), with a particular focus in mass marketing offers. The director will be responsible for leading all areas of development of a complete marketing offer: articulation of the field need and impact (which includes partnering with Global Programs and Sponsorship Operations to define the infrastructure needed to acquire and retains donors), donor segmentation and identification of target donor, scaling engagement channel best practices and development of new channels, development of value proposition and offer experience, ensuring a robust economic model and ensuring proper applications of brand framework – all with a lens of driving long-term revenue.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Change Leadership and influence at a senior level to win hearts and minds across a wide variety of senior stakeholders:

  • Bring together Ministry Leaders, SO Marketing Leaders and other GRD leaders to create a clear picture of funding needs in the near term

  • Partner with Support Office Marketing leaders to budget appropriate resources to pilot and eventually scale new marketing strategies to meet funding needs.

Create Strategy for the longer term:

  • Work with SO Marketing Leaders to develop high potential marketing strategies for future funding needs.

Lead Innovation to create new marketing offers:

  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams from various offices and various areas of the business to create fully defined marketing offers

Team Leadership:

  • Leads a cross-coordination team of marketing specialists within WVI and SOs from time to time, with a particular emphasis on driving PNS revenue growth (channel development, regional strategies, content development).

  • Manages direct reports, vendors on projects, while leading an extended “dotted-line” team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional relationship and influencing skills.

  • Exceptional intellectual ability - a clear strategic marketing thinker.

  • Significant experience in leading change in a complex environment.

  • 10-15 years in marketing, fundraising or related role, including 5-7 years at a senior management level with demonstrable success in achieving growth.

  • Ideally minimum 5 years of experience leading a marketing function within one of the largest World Vision Support offices and / or Minimum 7 years of experience leading a marketing function within a global organisation.

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in strategy or marketing.

  • The post-holder must have an active Christian faith.

  • Strong marketing and strategy skills with working knowledge of change management principles.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and able to win the confidence of a broad range of different stakeholders including leaders from a variety of cultural and professional backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to guide, edit and assure clear, brief and compelling written and visual communications. Ability to synthesize complex concepts for a wide variety of audiences.

  • Experience of working in a global and multi-cultural environment.

  • Supportive and influential engagement with senior partners internally and externally, including leadership groups and peer directors.

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English.

Preferred:

  • Understanding of marketing strategies, with the ability to develop strategic and tactical communications plans and outline the resources required to implement them.

  • Demonstrable experience of managing teams, and managing freelance and agency staff.

  • Experience of setting, implementing, monitoring and measuring marketing plans and ensuring delivery against agreed targets.

  • An understanding of international development and an empathy for people living amid poverty or oppression.

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.
