Director, Sponsorship Business Services

Job Description

*Position location to be determined by home country of successful candidate within a jurisdiction (country or U.S. State) where WVI is registered to operate.


The Director, Child Sponsorship Business Services provides broad business leadership for GC/Child Sponsorship services across national offices, support offices and the Global Center, with a primary focus to increase efficiency in execution, by directing the department managers and technical specialists to provide: 1) annual and multi-year planning and financial management group-wide for GC/Child Sponsorship, 2) child sponsorship reporting services for global, national and support office management, 3) global production services to national offices and support offices, 4) design and delivery of collateral resources (such as training guides) and translation services for global Child Sponsorship teams, 5)project management, business analytics, case studies and value-capture disciplines to inform end-to-end business decisions across partnership entities and within GC/Child Sponsorship, that simplify processes, and optimize cost and quality for ministry objectives.

The Director, Child Sponsorship Business Services reports to the Partnership Leader, Child Sponsorship, directing agile service teams responsive to changing demands as new partnership strategy drives enterprise-wide changes. The position is a member of the GC CS Leadership Team, and requires strong business management experience in a global setting, the ability to lead and develop managers to serve with excellence across a range of cultures and management disciplines, provision of client services through negotiated service agreements and/or outsource options, and to evaluate, design and execute solutions that increase agility, simplicity and efficiency of the operation.


Strategic and Operational Planning:

  • Leads development of multi-year and annual business plan for GC/CS Business Services departments, with input from GC/CS leadership team and clients served in WV entities.

  • Plans and negotiates formal service agreements with financial chargeback levels with served clients and partnership entities for GC/CS Business Services, to provide required ROI for a dynamic and agile work environment, as partnership strategy drives changes across the enterprise.

  • Drives multi-year business planning, financial management and staffing plans for the GC/CS organization in support of the Partnership Leader.

  • Defines the GC/CS planning processes and directs the staff who provide budgeting and financial reporting services for all directors and cost center managers across the GC/CS organization, as defined by FP&A. Establishes baselines and metrics, and resolves/escalates issues and initiates corrective action as appropriate.

Directs execution of services through the GC/CS Business Service Teams:

  • Hire, fire, coach and develop the managers and technical staff who provide the GC/CS Business services.

  • Drive definition, architecture and optimization of processes and service functions to extend, consolidate, simplify and standardize services and reduce costs while balancing roles, responsibilities and scale.

  • Assure value capture at scale, based on excellence in execution.

  • Institute systematic client accountability mechanisms: assure that service level agreements are established, and hold managers to account for performance against service agreements.

  • Approves and monitors the invoicing and collection of payments for those services which have formal agreements for ‘fee for service’ arrangements.

  • Identifies and addresses risks and issues through proactive review and management of exception reporting.

Evaluate, develop and/or consolidate future service offerings for continuous improvement:

  • Collaborate with GC/CS leadership and region/SO designees to identify opportunities for improved efficiency.

  • Direct staff in development of business cases and pilots with go/no-go decision gates. Rationalize cost/benefit and risk assessment for potential sourcing of services.

  • Evaluate opportunities to eliminate or consolidate processes or services.

  • Drive evaluation of options for services in response to partnership demand, including out-source or in-house service teams.

Partner to optimize cross-functional, e2e business processes and decision management, with GC/CS Leadership Team:

  • Establish and lead the process for group-wide ‘go-to-field/go-to-market’ decisions, so that decision processes are agile and transparent, and the level of rigor is appropriate and adapted to the scope of decisions.

  • Steward a common set of high-level WV Child Sponsorship ‘end-to-end’ process maps, assuring consistency, alignment and relevance, with a RACI for staff specialist responsibilities, and a road map for updating.

  • Establish common standards and tools, to promote best practices ‘fit for purpose’ for project and business process management across GC/CS.

  • Coach project management staff and consultants across GC/CS to utilize common tools, and foster alignment with other GC offices to streamline and eliminate redundancy.

  • Establish and proactively monitor the GC child sponsorship assets, ensuring availability for continuous improvement and accountability.

  • Provide coaching, guidance and “launch” support for new GC CS initiatives as needed.


  • Other responsibilities as needed.



  • Master’s degree in business administration, operations management, management science or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

  • Ability to lead teams in a virtual environment.

  • Experience leading both operations and project-based teams, developing the business discipline capabilities of managers and technical specialists while serving ultimate ministry objectives.

  • Ability to lead through collaboration and influence, with excellent interpersonal skills and virtual influencing skills.

  • Ability to build strong and effective working relationships with peers, Partnership senior leaders and their teams, and third-party service providers.

  • Ability to manage expectations of customers and senior management through proactive planning and frequent, intentional communication.

  • Excellent oral, written communication skills and ability to present well to a variety of audiences.

  • Must be highly self-motivated and driven to succeed in a fast-paced working environment.

  • A minimum of 10+ years of demonstrated work experience in project and operational leadership roles, including directing and motivating complex physical and virtual project teams.

  • Extensive international experience working across cultures and complex organizational structures.

  • Experience in the set up and management of ‘fee for service’ teams supporting customers across the globe.

  • Excellent effective written and verbal communication skills in English for all organization level audiences.


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Business and technical knowledge of World Vision, its core values and operating model.

  • Prince2 Project Management Certification or Project Management Professional Certification (PMP).

  • A passion for developing and promoting staff.

  • An experienced learner who values curiosity over certainty.

  • A bias toward continuous improvement.

  • Broad knowledge and deep understanding of different aspects of child sponsorship and its associated business processes within World Vision National, Regional and Support Offices.

Work Environment:

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 35% of the time.
