Community Development Workers (ZWASH & Sponsorship)



Location: Magoye/Choongo Cluster Area Program

PURPOSE:To assist the ZWASH Development Facilitator in facilitating community engagement, community changes, build and maintain local partnerships, build community and partner organization capacity, and strengthen community-led initiatives/innovations in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme in order to improve and sustain well-being of children and families. To assist the WASH Development Facilitator implement, monitor and report technical program interventions at Area Program level for improved child wellbeing.


  • Facilitate the planning and implementation of WASH technical programme activities using recommended models, techniques, standards and tools to achieve output targets within scope, time, and budget.

  • Communicate World Visions identity, mission, vision, values, policies and our approaches to facilitate development processes to realize well-being of the children in the communities.

  • Facilitate the interpretation and distribution of context appropriate WASH Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for effective implementation.

  • Work with other technical program staff at Area Programme to implement WASH programs activities for improved integrated implementation for impact and scale.

  • Raise WASH awareness and facilitate critical analysis of community issues and opportunities in WASH for improved implementation.

  • Work closely with the community and district partners such as the church to mobilize community in the implementation of activities in order to achieve sustainability of WASH interventions.

  • Facilitate WASH programmes at Area Programme level aimed at reducing the prevalence of water born and water related diseases through promotion of improved sanitation facilities, personal hygiene and environmental practices among communities and school children.

  • Participate in the district development plans of line ministries to ensure WVZL WASH technical programmes are mainstreamed and aligned for enhanced local partnership and ownerships.


  • Diploma in Public/Environmental Health with minimum 2 yearsexperience in relevant field

  • Hands on Experience in Program Management in a rural or peri-urban complex, international organization preferably NGO context

  • Knowledge and understanding of World Vision operations would be an added advantage,

  • Demonstrated Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring and report writing essential in the field of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

  • Must have excellent project management, community engagement, mobilisation, facilitating and donor engagement skills

  • Communications, interpersonal, analytical, conflict management, negotiation, training and networking skills are highly desired

  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, and must be a mature Christian.

  • Computer literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Capacity to function well in a team and contribute effectively to team efforts.

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: 90% Field-based and 10% Office

  • Travel: 10% Domestic travel is required.

  • On call: Preparedness to work outside normal working hours


Location: Magoye/Choongo Cluster Area Program

PURPOSE: Responsible for the implementation of all program activities within a Zone of the Area Programme (AP) in order to ensure all activities are significantly impacting the wellbeing of children.


Program Management and Reporting

  • Implement and monitor developmental activities in the respective zone

  • Organize child friendly and age appropriate activities that will promote the participation of children.

  • Work with faith based organisations to implement activities that impact the spiritual nurture of children.

Networking, Collaboration and Liaison

  • Ensure that the Community - including children - participates in all zone activities through existing community structures.

  • Facilitates community engagement and networking on all TPs implemented in the Zone.

  • Facilitates local level advocacy to address issues that affect the wellbeing of children.

Programme Effectiveness and Quality Assurance

  • Track and report on the implementation of various Technical Programme activities.

  • Share quality impact stories, photos and videos with stakeholders.

  • Ensure that registered children are present, participating and are among the primary beneficiaries of the Area Programme activities

  • Work with faith based organisations to implement activities that impact in the spiritual nurturing of children.

  • Ensure that all the sponsorship KPIs are met.

  • Update, document and secure accurate Registered Childrens records according to Child sponsorship Standards.

Community Mobilization and Engagement

  • Mobilize community members and ensure that they participate in project activities

  • Explain the Organizations Mission Statement, Core Values and Vision to the community for the shared understanding.

  • Organize and manage community meetings for the purpose of disseminating information for effective implementation of programme activities.

Project Visitation

  • Host sponsors, donors and other visitors at the Zonal level for project monitoring and exchange of ideas.


  • Diploma in Social Work or any other relevant field; a Degree is an added advantage.

  • Basic Computer skills in Ms Office applications

  • Adaptive and willing to work in a rural set up.

  • Must have good interpersonal relations.

  • Must have an understanding of World Vision mission, vision and core values.

Other Competencies/Attributes:

  • Mature and committed Christian, with strong integrity.

  • Ability to demonstrate community development skills.

  • Good Monitoring and report writing skills

  • Able to work with minimum supervision

  • Able to meet strict deadlines.

  • Competency in photography is an added advantage

  • Must be able to ride a motorbike.

  • Must be resident or willing to live within the Area Programme

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
