Development Facilitator- MNCH

Lundazi - Katete

POSITION: Development Facilitator – Maternal, Newborn, Child health and Nutrition

Location: Lundazi- Katete/Kawaza/Makungwa Cluster Area Program

PURPOSE: To facilitate community engagement, community changes, build and maintain local partnerships, build community and partner organisation capacity, and strengthen community-led initiatives/innovations to improve and sustain well-being of children and families. To implement, monitor and report technical program interventions at Area Program level for improved maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition standards.


Program Development and Implementation

  • Work closely with the TP Specialists in the planning and implementation of maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (MNCHN) program activities using recommended models, techniques, standards and tools to achieve output targets within scope, time, and budget

  • Communicate World Vision’s identity, mission, vision, values, policies and our approaches to facilitate development processes and to realize well-being of the children in the communities.

  • Facilitate the interpretation and distribution of MNCHN context appropriate technical program Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for effective implementation.

  • Work with other technical program staff at Area Program (AP) to implement MNCHN program activities for improved integrated implementation for depth, impact and scale.

  • Raise awareness and facilitate critical analysis of community MNCHN issues and opportunities for improved implementation.

  • Foster strong two-way referral linkages between health facilities and communities

Local Partnering and Networking

  • Collaborate with local level stakeholders involved in MNCHN activities for effective program implementation, ownership and sustainability.

  • Represent WVZL in various key meetings at district level including Technical Working Group (TWG) for alignment of national and local priorities.

  • Facilitate and support local level technical program related advocacy in MNCH for better service provision/delivery

Capacity Building

  • Facilitate building capacity of health facility staff and community health based volunteers (CHBVs) in MNCHN for effective roll out and activity implementation.

  • -Facilitate trainings in MNCHN for community partners and other relevant stakeholders to ensure its activities are effectively implemented.

Programme Effectiveness and Quality Assurance

  • In collaboration with Design, Monitoring and Evaluation (DME) specialists, build capacity for health facility staff and CHBVs in MNCHN data collection, interpretation and utilization.

  • Collect monitoring data with community workers and volunteers in a collaborative and systematic way.

  • Facilitate joint technical monitoring and reporting of the project for effective implementation and quality control in MNCHN.

  • Write and timely submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports and document lessons learned and best practices for improved technical program decision making in MNCHN.

  • Participate in the review of technical program interventions for MNCHN improved quality of programming.

  • Work with DMEs to input data databases and develop information management systems.

  • Participate in documenting and sharing MNCHN programme lessons and promising practices with partners and stakeholders.

  • Ensure that the project is implemented according to grants guild lines.

  • Write debrief papers to inform programming.

Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Food Nutrition, Midwifery, Nursing and Medicine is required.

  • Minimum 2 years’ of relevant experience in successful implementation of household and community- level child health and nutrition sector programs

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-faceted health development program in collaboration with provincial and district MOH personnel as well as other key partners.

  • A demonstrated track record in providing mentorship and supervision to strengthen healthcare services; training and use of quality improvement approaches.

  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.

  • Proven capacity to plan, analyze and ensure routine monitoring of work plans.

  • Experience in Program Management in a complex, international organization preferably NGO context.

  • Knowledge and understanding of World Vision operations would be an added advantage.

  • Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring and report writing essential.

  • Must have excellent project management, community engagement, mobilisation, facilitating and donor engagement skills.

  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, and must be a mature Christian.

  • Computer literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Capacity to function well in a team and contribute effectively to team efforts.

  • Must be able to ride a motorbike.

  • Able to work with minimum supervision

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based 20% : field 80%

  • Travel: international as required.
