Operations Manager - Nothern Region

Job Title: Operations Manager (North)

Purpose of the Position:

The Operations Manager Position is a Senior Management position whose primary purpose is to provide leadership and direction in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development programmes, projects and associated relief initiatives within their region of jurisdiction.

Major Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to all programs, and program management within the region of operation.

  • Oversee the implementation of policy and strategic plans in the programmes, with a particular focus on HIV/AIDS, Child Rights Programming and Relief.

  • Make policy and strategic recommendations to the executive.

  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of operations personnel as well as performance manage ADP staff.

  • Contribute to the development of strategic direction of the Operations Department.

  • Network and negotiate with Support Offices and other donors with respect to programme, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and closure processes.

  • Network with Government and relevant non-governmental institutions with respect to programmatic issues.

  • Develop ADP growth plan for the region.

  • Analyse, critique and provide management feedback on Programme Performance and reporting.

  • Initiate and monitor the programme closure processes and production of closure comments.

  • Review and assist Programmes to initiate funding proposals to WV partnership and other donor organizations.

  • Facilitate the operation of programmes in compliance to the NO, SARO, WV Partnership and donor requirements.

  • Coordinate the planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of new and existing programmes.

  • Facilitate monthly, quarterly and annual operations management and personnel meetings and reviews.

  • Monitor and guide ADPs with respect to program performance vis financial expenditure

  • Negotiate programme budgets and plans with Support Offices and Donors.

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Rural/Community Development or equivalent , Masters degree in relevant area will be an added advantage.

  • Three to five years experience in leadership position (some cross functional management experience essential)

  • Appreciation of basic compute skills like Microsoft word, excel, lotus notes, internet etc.

  • Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and report writing essential.

  • Ability to manage and develop managerial personnel.

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with development partners and Government structures.

  • Networking with key stakeholders within and without WV- maintain strong links other NGOs, community structures and government agencies

  • Understanding of WV operations in both relief and the development context

  • Understanding of transformational development

  • Ability to set standards and monitor compliance

  • Ability to identify gaps, trends, priorities and key issues

  • Ability to integrate relief, development and advocacy

  • Ability to explain WV’s work in relation to issues of poverty, power, justice and peace.

  • Ability to respect and relate appropriately to people of other faiths

  • Ability to interpret and present information with influence and impact

  • Good understanding of WV and Sphere standards

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships

  • Ability to build a strong operations teams across programs

  • Ability to align team goals with vision/mission/strategy

  • Ability to lead and effective long and short term planning

  • Ability to build a team and being a team player
