Disaster Risk Reduction & NRM Field Monitor

Job Title:Disaster Risk Reduction and Natural Resources Management Field Monitor (3)

Reports to: District Coordinator

Location:Buhera, Chipinge and Chimanimani

Purpose of the Position

To assist in day to day coordination and monitoring required for smooth implementation of various DRR and NRM activities in the district. Ensuring the functionality of resilience committees both at district and ward level.Identification of FFA sites, mobilize community for FFA and conservation works, verification of work done and make sure that all the productive assets are functional and well managed.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate meetings for DRR, ESCs and watershed management committees.

  • Help communities to review and implement their disaster preparedness plans.

  • Facilitate the development of community based early warning and risk communication systems.

  • Enhance sustainability of projects and activities through Food for Assets Programming and interventions by applying community-based approaches in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes.

  • Facilitate all NRM, conservation, environmental and climate change activities at community level.

  • Monitor the implementation of FFA activities and ensuring that there is advocacy in research works for relevant project designs from the communities, Local Authorities and other stakeholders.

  • Co-ordinating with other Relief and Development Agencies, Local Authorities and Government line- ministries in Program areas in ensuring that DRR and NRM activities are in line with the required standards.

  • Monitoring and ensuring the functionality and management of productive assets.

  • Training community members on asset management, operation and maintenance of infrastructure.

  • Supervise community members on environmental sound design and management (EMMP implementation).

  • Fore-seeing potential disasters associated with FFA projects proposed by the communities and come up with risk mitigation measures.

  • Tracking and ensuring that the M and E indicators are fulfilled.

  • Documentation of success stories.

  • Report writing.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Disaster Risk Reduction/ Natural Resources Management/ Developmental Studies/ Social Sciences/ Agricultural or any relevant field.

  • Minimum of 3 years community development and/or project management experience in a government office or NGO, on issues relevant to the technical area.

  • Knowledge of USAID Food For Peace, Monitoring and Evaluation tools, indicators and guidelines is highly desired.

  • A clean Class 3 drivers’ License and ability to ride a Motorbike is highly desired.

  • Basic knowledge on community based asset creation/Nutrition gardens.

  • Knowledge on the establishment of committees and their functionality.

  • A qualification in community based planning, monitoring and evaluation and climate change with experience in rural development will be an added advantage.

  • Natural Resources Management by-law formulation will be an added advantage.
